Horizon Awarded Two Broadband Projects by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Broadband Expansions Authority

Grant Funding to Support the Company’s Continued Efforts to Reduce the Digital Divide in Rural Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio – March 31, 2022 –  Horizon, an Ohio-based fiber-optic broadband company, is proud to announce that it has been awarded nearly $30 million in grant funding from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Broadband Expansions Authority.

In March 2022, Ohio Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted announced a plan to establish broadband expansion projects with the goal of offering affordable, high-speed internet to nearly 100,000 underserved households in Ohio. To support this endeavor, the Broadband Expansion Authority authorized BroadbandOhio to award more than $232 million in grants state-wide.

projects, connecting thousands of in-need households to mission-critical networking capabilities. These skills and attributes are key to ensuring successful fulfillment of the state’s objective to bring internet service to regions where service providers have historically found the high expenses of building in areas with lower population densities a deterrent.

With these strengths in mind, Horizon has been awarded two projects — one covers a portion of Fayette County, and another will span Fayette, Highland and Ross counties. Upon completion of the proposed project build, residents in these areas will enjoy network infrastructure that delivers speeds of up to one-gigabit download and one-gigabit upload via highly scalable Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) technology that can meet future needs beyond symmetrical 1G service.

“We are very excited to be working once again with the State of Ohio in a true public/private collaboration to further the mutual community-oriented goal of providing highly reliable internet service to Ohioans throughout the state,” comments Jim Capuano, CEO of Horizon. “We have built out a number of strategic Fiber-to-the-Home projects, with many more planned, and this grant will enable us to further empower in-need homes, families, and businesses in the most rural areas. This is, and always has been, the core goal of Horizon, and we’re honored to be serving our community in this way.”

This announcement follows a range of announced Fiber-to-the-Home builds across the state of Ohio and underscores the company’s commitment to delivering the high-quality and reliable networking services that are a necessity for today’s businesses and families.
