Enables Wireline & Wireless Network Functions like BNG, WAG, and SASE Gateway
Burlington, MA – March 17, 2022 – Benu Networks, the company transforming the Service Provider Network Edge, today announced its SD-Edge platform has been tested and certified on VMware Telco Cloud Platform, as part of the VMware Ready for Telco Cloud program.
VMware’s Kubernetes distribution – VMware Tanzu for Telco – is purposefully designed to support the unique requirements of telco networks. Containerized Network Functions (CNFs) are emerging as a way to build and deploy complex networking solutions, based on the principles of cloud-native computing and microservices. Complex functions no longer have to run on specialized hardware but can be deployed on commodity servers or even in a public cloud. This enables lowing cost and delivering greater agility, elastic scalability, and unmatched resiliency.
Benu’s SD-Edge Platform can be configured through software to run as a cloud-native Broadband Network Gateway (BNG), SASE Gateway, CGNAT Gateway, Wireless Access Gateway (WAG) or as a 5G Access Gateway Function (5G AGF) for Wireless Wireline Convergence (WWC). This flexibility and the fact it can run as a CNF provides tremendous value, agility, and cost savings for service providers as they look to deliver next generation network functions and services from the cloud at the speed of hyperscalers.
“Benu is dedicated to meeting the evolving needs of service providers through the delivery of our cloud-native solutions,” said Ajay Manuja, CEO of Benu Networks. “Our certification means that existing VMware customers can deploy our cloud-native BNG seamlessly into their networks to provide a common operational framework for wireline and wireless subscribers and to future-proof their infrastructure for Wireless Wireline Convergence (WWC).”
Stephen Spellicy, vice president of marketing and business development, Service Provider and Edge, VMware, said, “As service providers adopt cloud-native network functions, we’ve advanced our VMware Ready for Telco Cloud certification program to support CNF validation and interoperability. By using validated network functions from the VMware Ready for Telco Cloud program on VMware Telco Cloud Platform, customers can quickly onboard and deploy multi-vendor VNFs and CNFs to save time, money, and integration work. We’re pleased to count Benu Networks as a certified partner to enable mutual customers to deploy Benu’s SD-Edge Platform on VMware Telco Cloud Platform.”
Amplifying the power of cloud-native benefits, the Benu SD-Edge Platform supports standards-based separation of the control plane from the user plane (BBF TR-459 “CUPS” architecture). This capability combined with cloud technology enables customers to deploy hundreds of resilient user planes in an automated fashion, all connecting to a single geo-redundant control plane, to quickly scale out and add unique new services.
With a VMware-certified Benu solution, edge computing becomes a natural evolution for a service provider’s network infrastructure, establishing a competitive advantage in their market. Benu solutions are deployed by service providers across the globe on five (5) continents and through its cloud-native SD-Edge platform, Benu equips carriers with the functionality they need to modernize the network making it easier than ever to be dynamic, scalable, and efficient in the delivery of broadband services.
