3Red8 Announces the First National Fiber Optic Transport Network in More Than 30 Years

New network will be the next open-access internet backbone, future-proofing nationwide connectivity

Houston, Texas – March 29, 2022 – 3Red8, a next-generation smart infrastructure company, today announces it is building the first open-access national fiber optic network to enable the technology of the future while connecting rural, tribal, and underserved communities along the routes to help close the digital divide. The high-capacity dark fiber network will stretch across the U.S. with the first phase provisioned in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina at the end of 2023, and the national route completed by the end of 2027.

3Red8’s national route will span 18 states, from coast to coast and from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico. The new fiber optic network is designed to expand and scale to enable bandwidth-intensive applications of the future, including 5G/6G, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, smart agriculture, IoT, and EV charging stations.

“The development of this new open-access transport network will provide low latency, ultra-reliable, and secure connectivity for the first time in three decades,” adds Mark Adams, Chief Development Officer for 3Red8. “In addition, it delivers state-of-the-art, secure data transport solutions for communities, corporations, and government agencies. As our name signifies, the entire network is designed with a triple-redundant, figure-eight network architecture, widely considered the holy grail of network engineering.”

3Red8 is partnering with Quanta Telecom, Schneider ElectricDentons, EDJX, and Deloitte to build this disruptive, new solution to allow customers, partners, and the industry to benefit from an innovative approach that solves connectivity issues on a national scale.

“We are proudly committed to building this next-generation digital infrastructure to future-proof data, internet distribution, and connectivity, while also solving the digital divide, particularly in rural, tribal, and underrepresented communities in America,” comments Peter Ambs, President and Chief Operating Officer for 3Red8. “The pandemic highlighted what we already knew was a massive gap in both access and equity to quality internet services. This project will enable middle mile network builds as well as result in up to 1,000 new ISPs nationally.”
