DF&I Announces Completion of Network Buildout between Ashburn, VA and Linthicum Heights, MD and Accelerates Manassas Expansion to Address Dark Fiber and Conduit Demand

Ashburn, Virginia   January 28, 2022  Dark Fiber and Infrastructure, LLC (“DF&I” or the “Company”) proudly announces the completion of a new 100% underground, high capacity, open access, ultra-low latency fiber route between the data center clusters of Ashburn, VA and Baltimore and Linthicum Heights, MD. With the 65-mile-route completed, DF&I has uniquely positioned itself as a leading Mid-Atlantic communications infrastructure provider that can deliver dedicated dark fiber without the need for signal regeneration between southern Maryland and Ashburn’s “Data Center Alley”. DF&I is utilizing its exclusive Potomac River Crossing, located directly north of Ashburn, VA, as a key component of the low-latency network.

The completion of the route involved successful collaboration between several public and private sector organizations, demonstrating DF&I’s ability to build and deliver a best-in-class product that benefits many key stakeholders. “We could not be more pleased about reaching this critical milestone. We recognize and acknowledge the support we received from the State of Maryland, MDSHA, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, MD and Anne Arundel County. Building infrastructure is a complex undertaking and the support for our network completion from the various state and local municipalities was essential during the deployment process,” said Judd Carothers, Founder and COO of DF&I.

Now that the network is complete, DF&I looks toward expanding its customer base and building upon existing customer relationships as demand for critical infrastructure continues to accelerate. “With the network now in place, we have made the critical pivot from deployment to monetization of the assets we have created,” commented John Schmitt, Founder and CRO for DF&I. John Schmitt also adds, “Our network supports the diverse needs of hyperscale cloud customers, telecom carriers, state and local governments, financial institutions, telemedicine, and enterprise users alike, which all require connectivity into Ashburn.”

In parallel with the route completion into Maryland, DF&I has continued to strategically create essential infrastructure in Northern Virginia. Late last year, the company announced plans to expand south from Ashburn, creating a new dark fiber and dedicated conduit ring that extends through Arcola, Haymarket, Manassas, and Chantilly. “To put it simply; we’re builders,” said Chris Pancione, President of Field Services at DF&I. “The required scale of infrastructure needed in this critical region does not exist today. There are a lot of people talking about what they are going to do; at DF&I, we’re doing it.”

DF&I has started construction on the initial phase of the route towards Arcola and has completed engineering and permitting on several subsequent phases of the 88-mile Manassas ring.
