AF Gruppen Selects Bulk Data Centers for Co-location

Oslo, Norway – December 2021 — Leading contracting and industrial group AF Gruppen has selected Bulk Data Centers to house their future Private Cloud in Bulk’s Oslo Internet Exchange (OS-IX) facility through a co-location agreement.

AF Gruppen is implementing a “Cloud first” strategy. However, not all systems and applications are suited for Public Cloud. The company is combining private Cloud capabilities in Oslo with Microsoft Azure.

AF Gruppen is a leading contracting and industrial group from Norway with a revenue of more than 27 billion NOK and more than 5,500 employees. The company has projects within real estate, construction, civil engineering, environment, energy and offshore in Norway, Sweden, Lithuania, and the UK. AF Gruppen earned ninth place in the Financial Times list of Europe’s Climate Leaders 2021 for construction companies with the greatest reduction of carbon outlets relative to revenue.

“We appreciate Bulk’s ability to work at our pace through the process to deliver a top level of security,” said Glenn Hagelund CISO/Head of Operations & Architecture for AF Gruppen. “We needed a plan to leverage colocation, deliver highly secure and assure the ability to scale going forward. OS-IX was our first choice and the Bulk team helped make that happen.”

OS-IX is Norway’s best-connected data center, powered by renewable energy. The 23,500 sqm facility offers scalable and dependable capacity to support future expansions with access to more than 60 different networks and Cloud Connects, as well as leading national and Nordic IX providers and Tier 1 carriers. With Fortum Fiber connecting into OS-IX, announced in March, AF Gruppen will use the dark fiber availability, adding stable, low latency and ultra-secure data transport options back to their HQ.

“We are pleased at the confidence and trust AF Gruppen has placed in selecting our state-of-the-art, scalable colocation solutions to support their growing hybrid cloud needs,” said Gisle Eckhoff, Executive Vice President for Bulk Data Centers. “Space to support future growth, the high level of physical security and dark fiber availability at OS-IX were crucial factors in their move to Colocation. We demonstrated that we can fully support their needs.”
