Huawei’s UBBF to Showcase Innovations and Address Challenges in Fiber Deployment and IPv6 & IPv6+ Transitions

[September 29, Dubai, UAE] Huawei, in collaboration with renowned industry bodies and partners, will be holding its 7th Ultra Broadband Forum (UBBF) in Dubai, starting October 19, 2021. A highest-level summit in the fixed-network domain, UBBF serves as a communication platform for operators, digital space partners, standards organizations, regulators, and vertical industry leaders, and has been playing its role to enable sustainable development of the UBB industry. UBBF 2021 opens on October 19th.

Created in response to the explosive growth happening across all sectors of the economy, and in particular in smart manufacturing, remote education, digital finance, and smart healthcare, UBBF 2021 also embodies a special Huawei-hosted industry forum, titled “SAMENA Accelerator”, designed along the ambits of infrastructure development and innovative IP capabilities for accelerated digital economy, and which will be held on October 20th.

The Huawei-hosted SAMENA Accelerator, organized in collaboration with the South Asia, Middle East and North Africa (SA-ME-NA) region’s premier industry organization, SAMENA Council, will bring together policymakers, regulators, Operator CEOs, and leaders from influential global bodies and ICT bodies to delve into understanding and enabling the accelerated deployment of fiber networks, deemed to be among the greenest and sustainable ways not only to enhance connectivity but also to make progress on sustainable development goals.

Huawei notes that, over the years, costs of fiber deployment have been reduced as a result of both best practices as well as innovative technology solutions, including patented technologies offered by Huawei. However, certain challenges continue to impede faster deployment of fiber networks, which can benefit from improved policy and regulatory support with regard to flexibility in partnership agreements, investment incentives, light-touch regulation, efficiencies in administrative ROW procedures, and putting target-based national broadband plans and obligations to actions.

Similarly, there is a need within the SA-ME-NA region to recognize and transition to IPv6, given that other large countries and regions in the world, including United States, European Union, and China have already released policies and commenced implementation of IPv6/IPv6+ to accommodate the new trends in hyper-connectedness, digital inclusion, Internet of Things, and to help achieve intelligent capabilities in ubiquitous connectivity, ultra-broadband access, automation, deterministic communications, low latency, as well as digital trust and cybersecurity.

One of the key aims of the UBBF 2021 and Huawei-hosted SAMENA Accelerator within the UBBF, is to emphasize on the need of the Ultra-broadband industry to speed up the digitalization process with the help of policy-makers, regulators, and the private sector. For this reason, at the Ultrabroadband Forum 2021, Huawei is collaborating with both world and regionally-leading telecom operators, industry partners, and other industry’s influential bodies, including SAMENA Telecommunications Council, to explore new opportunities and address prevailing challenges within the ultra-broadband industry toward building future-proof and resilient networks that not only extend connectivity and digitally include everyone, but which sustainably provide new space for new businesses to grow.

While UBBF will showcase Huawei’s innovations in cooperation with operators, comprehensively

demonstrating how new infrastructure innovations can help pace up cross-industry and cross-sector growth in the age of 5G, the Huawei-hosted SAMENA Accelerator will delve into specific policy, planning, and best-practice approaches in fostering innovations for the provision of universal broadband access and industrial digitalization.
