Press Release, Paris, France – June 2021
Helium, the American company offering a decentralized, open-source IoT network based on public LoRaWAN® access points since June 2019, is now compatible with Abeeway, an Actility subsidiary specialized in fused multi-technology low-power geolocation, to provide a whole range of IoT geolocation use cases using Abeeway’s smart sensors, suitable for outdoor & indoor asset tracking as well as people’s safety. A dedicated Starter Kit is now also available on ThingPark Market to try it out.
With the Abeeway solutions, it’s easy to always know where your valuable things are. You can place our LoRaWAN-connected smart tracking devices in anything you need to track and protect – be it cars, motorbikes, bikes, keychains, luggage, or handbags. You can also use the device to monitor the safety of elders, children, and other family members. Or you can securely mount it on your pet’s collar and not worry about it getting lost. This works anywhere in the Helium Network, leveraging your Hotspot but also any other Hotspot in your community. Unlike Bluetooth based tags you do not need compatible phones to be around for recovery and, best of all, there is no requirement for a SIM card.
Abeeway ultra long-life battery-powered trackers devices provide accurate and responsive location, adaptability to a wide range of environments, and easy integration with 3rd party IoT platforms and applications. Abeeway trackers are now fully integrated with The People’s Network – Helium’s IoT Network, enabling simple and affordable asset tracking applications.
Aimed at companies developing uses in the connected home, in asset and animal tracking, or in data collection from infrastructure sensors, the Helium Network is built by individuals who deploy Hotspots. With Helium’s own open source blockchain technology, individuals are incentivized to deploy Hotspots, which simultaneously mine cryptocurrency and provide LoRaWAN® network coverage for hundreds of square miles. Hotspots are the size of a small router (6-inch x 6-inch x 1.5-inch) and easily plug into a home network, providing affordable wireless connectivity for location tracking and theft recovery applications, such as tracking and monitoring vehicles, equipment, trailers, bicycles, livestock and pets, and more. At this date Helium has over 50,000 Hotspots in the world:
Abeeway devices combine multiple geolocation technologies leveraging WiFi hotspots, Bluetooth beacons as well as patented ultra-low power-assisted GPS (LP-GPS) providing quick and reliable GPS location even in harsh environments. You can quickly geolocate all your valuable belongings anywhere indoors & outdoors (if the tracker is within reach of any Helium hotspot), generate alerts in case of movement, use geofencing to receive notifications when the tracker is in a specific zone. You can easily switch between different tracking modes to optimize battery consumption to each use case.
The trackers are equipped with a powerful buzzer: once in the vicinity of the tracker you can make it ring to spot its exact location.
For example, Bouygues Construction locates more than 20,000 pieces of equipment in real time, while Volvo Group improved its trucks factory operations thanks to Abeeway. Over 39,000 Abeeway sensors are being deployed in Saudi Arabia by The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC), the developer behind the world’s most ambitious regenerative tourism project, as part of an extended IoT security solution for its construction workforce and vehicle fleet.
Abeeway Smart Badges can be used for Proximity Detection & Contact Tracing for Covid-19. The solution ensures that people keep a safe distance from each other and reduces interactions, avoiding temporary shutdowns of operating plants with enhanced security measures, but also tracks all interactions between infected and healthy individuals to instantly identify potential contamination clusters and warn employees before they return to work.
The Abeeway trackers are immediately available with a cloud-based device management application which allows them to monitor the devices, their location and to easily configure them. A cloud location platform is provided for easy interfacing to third-party IoT platforms using easy JSON and REST based APIs. A driver is also provided for integrators wanting to interface third- party applications from the Helium data feed.
For consumer use, later in the summer, a mobile app will be available for Android and Apple phones, which will provide a simplified configuration interface and will allow you to locate your own trackers as well as share their position with others, so that everyone in the family can know where the cat is. The app also allows users to define custom zones and receive notifications once an item (or a loved one) leaves or enters those areas.
