COLUMBUS, Ohio – May 12, 2021 – The YMCA of Central Ohio has selected Horizon, a fiber-optic broadband company operating out of Columbus, Ohio, to supply their Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) and hosted voice solution.
The pandemic shed new light on the digital inequities that exist in the communities supported by the YMCA of Central Ohio, including the lack of internet access for many young people and families. In response, the YMCA answered the urgent need to keep communities connected by developing programming that increased internet access for all people they serve, in turn helping to lessen the gap in the digital divide.
These unique programs, which include Learning Extension Centers, STEM opportunities through eSports and live, virtual Y classes, created a higher demand in bandwidth at many of the YMCA’s locations. To empower these initiatives, Horizon and the YMCA worked together to develop network solutions for approximately a dozen Central Ohio locations. The solutions included fiber DIA (Direct Internet Access) with varying speeds by location, as well as Voice Connect, which is Horizon’s cloud-based voice product that delivers more robust communications and collaboration abilities.
