Celebrating 25 years of Colt Germany

From 2 Gbps to 400 Gbps; 2021 marks a quarter of a century of the Colt network in Germany, delivering industry-leading connectivity solutions to German enterprises across the region.

Frankfurt, 29 March 2021 – Colt Technology Services has this year reached a significant anniversary of its fiber optic network operations in Germany. For 25 years it has been powering enterprises with high bandwidth connectivity in the region. In March 1996, the then-mayor Petra Roth opened the first Colt city network in Frankfurt. By 2000, Colt had added Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN) in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Stuttgart and Hannover. Today, Colt delivers more than 7,000 km of fibre routes throughout Germany via its IQ Network, connecting more than 6,550 buildings and 180 data centers. 28 of the 30 DAX-listed companies are among Colt’s customers.

The Colt IQ Network is a 100Gbps optimised intelligent network distributed to 900+ data centres and carrier hotels around the world, providing best in class service and optimised for SDN, NFV and cloud services. Colt continues to invest in its network to ensure that it is capable of serving the growing connectivity requirements of digital enterprises.

Speaking of the milestone, Keri Gilder, Colt’s CEO, said: “Germany is one of our most important markets worldwide and a true success story for our business. Colt Germany has transformed from a traditional telecommunications company to an enabler of enterprises and their evolving connectivity requirements. I want to say a big congratulations to all our German employees, and I can’t wait to see what they achieve over the next 25 years.”

Colt has always invested heavily in its network: from laying new fibre across the world to innovations in Software-Defined Networking (SDN), On Demand, SD WAN and cloud connectivity. Today, it is investing in forward-thinking technologies and solutions such as artificial technology (AI) for intelligent networking and the company continues to lead the industry as a pioneer and innovator of enterprise connectivity.

Stephan Wanke, Regional Sales Director Enterprise, Central & Eastern Europe at Colt, commented; “25 years of continuing to develop our technologies – always to provide our customers with the best possible service – has brought us to where we are today. We have added value to entire industries through future-proof digital business models and innovation. Long before flexible bandwidth control and software-defined network structures became mainstream, Colt’s On Demand solution was already market ready. Enterprises of today could not thrive without this combination of flexibility and high-performance connectivity.”

Corinna Greis, Country Manager for Germany, said: “Our employees are at the heart of Colt Germany. Some have been with us since the very beginning and we aim to attract and nurture talent with continual training, as well as the opportunity to become real experts in their field. Colt prides itself on offering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive and develop to their full potential, regardless of background, gender, sexuality or age.”

Colt wants to continue to develop and deliver industry leading solutions for its customers globally. As well as expanding its portfolio of data and voice services, Colt is focusing on expanding its strategic partnerships, particularly with cloud providers and systems integrators, to leverage the industry ecosystem to deliver value to Colt, its partners and end customers.
