Telecom Egypt, Egypt’s first integrated telecom operator and one of the largest subsea cables operators in the region, announces the signing of a strategic partnership with AMS-IX to build an internet exchange in Cairo inside its largest Certified Tier III international data center facility within the Smart Village in west Cairo. The new exchange will serve as an open access Platform for large content delivery network providers, application providers, cloud providers, and telecom carriers who are looking to enhance the digital experience of internet users in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East.
Scheduled to be built in early 2021 upon the completion of the data center, the new exchange will be managed based on IX-as-a-Service (IXaaS), an AMS-IX solution that supports organizations all around the world to set up and run internet exchanges. It will also support Telecom Egypt in its efforts to improve the quality of internet services in Egypt and expedite the development of Egypt’s ICT infrastructure and digital services as well as contribute to regional digital transformation. Moreover, the exchange will strengthen Egypt’s position as an international connectivity hub, further highlighting the potential of the growing digital sector in the region.
