We are happy to announce a new Internet Exchange in the Ruhr region of Germany: Ruhr-CIX powered by DE-CIX. Established jointly by the Ruhr region cities of Dortmund, Bochum, and Gelsenkirchen and located at the data center of regional Internet companies DOKOM21, GELSEN-NET, and TMR, the exchange will increase the digitalization and networking capabilities of the area, benefiting both companies and end users.
New digital ecosystem
The Ruhr region is the largest metropolitan region in Germany, with more than five million inhabitants. 37 of the top 500 companies in Germany are based there. The new Internet Exchange reduces latency and leads to a more stable network for applications such as cloud computing, VoIP connections, and various streaming services. In the first stage, Ruhr-CIX will have a total capacity of almost 10 Terabit per seconds and it is therefore future-proofed for growth.
Connect locally to reach international networks
Implemented with our high availability and security requirements, Ruhr-CIX will also be connected with other DE-CIX exchanges, extending the reach of the local ecosystem globally. Customers connecting at Ruhr-CIX will also be able to reach the big international content providers, cloud providers, and Internet service providers based outside the Ruhr region.
