DENVER, Aug. 27, 2020 – Whether working, gaming or learning online, residents of Duplin County, N.C., will soon have increased access to high-speed internet as CenturyLink, Inc. brings fiber to the doorsteps of more than 1,300 local homes and businesses over the next two years.
Investments from CenturyLink and the company’s participation in North Carolina’s Growing Rural Economies with Access to Technology (GREAT) broadband grant program will soon bring fiber to local homes and businesses to meet the growing demand for high-speed internet as well as help meet the state’s larger goal of providing broadband access for all North Carolinians. The GREAT Grant provides matching funds to support broadband deployment and expansion.
“This broadband grant program is a wonderful example of public-private partnerships that work for people, communities and their businesses,” said Steve Brewer, CenturyLink’s director of state regulatory and legislative affairs. “Families and businesses have shifted to living more of life online. We know broadband brings many benefits to communities—this expansion will improve access to the online applications being used every day.”
The North Carolina GREAT Grant, along with CenturyLink’s participation in the Federal Communications Commission’s Connect America Fund (CAF) program, enables the company to make investments that bring broadband to more rural homes and businesses.
When construction is complete, this project will provide the fiber and electronics needed for high-speed connections up to 940 Mbps.
