Indian pupils benefit from Ericsson and Bharti Foundation Robotic Lab

Coding, programing and robotics are among the digital skills that hundreds of students at a secondary school in the Punjab region of northern India will gain under a joint initiative between Ericsson and the Bharti Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Bharti Enterprises.

The partners have opened the Robotic Lab at the Satya Bharti Senior Secondary School in Jhaneri to drive students’ analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills by introducing them to digital technology and related subjects for the first time.

The ultimate aim is to improve their education and employment prospects across science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). About 300 11-16 year-old students will benefit from the three-year program.

Mamta Saikia, Chief Executive Officer, Bharti Foundation says: “Use of robotics in the classroom has proven to be a consistent and surefire way to teach students the required skills needed to prepare them for the future job market. Robotics at the school is now a significant part of learning that improves the analytical skills of students. I would like to thank Ericsson for partnering with us in this initiative and provide this exciting learning opportunity to the underprivileged students that they would not have access to otherwise.”

Heather Johnson, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility, Ericsson, says: “Ericsson is committed to improving educational opportunities for young students around the world through the use of ICT. The program with Bharti Foundation aims to inspire and equip children to approach technology and problem-solving by creating an open atmosphere for learning, where instructors share their enthusiasm for STEM, thus inspiring children to participate in future technological studies. The project highlights Ericsson’s commitment to supporting access to education for students everywhere and leveraging ICT to enhance learning outcomes.”
