Sparkle Expands Its Reach in Milan with Two New Points of Presence

Located in Cornaredo and in the city center, the new sites extend Sparkle’s city ring in Milan creating a digital ecosystem that is unique in Italy and competitive in Europe

Rome, 2 October 2019

Sparkle, the first international service provider in Italy and among the top ten global operators, has expanded its network reach in Milan with the opening of two new Points of Presence (PoPs) to fulfil the increasing connectivity needs of the city and of its industrial ecosystem.

Milan is the main financial, commercial and industrial centre in Italy as well as the third-largest business district in Europe, with more than 300,000 companies specialized in various sectors including Media, Finance, Design and Fashion. The city also stands out for its strong international vocation, being home to 4,500 multinational enterprises and an attractive place for start-ups, universities and research institutes (data by The Chamber of commerce of Milan Monza Brianza Lodi).

Located at DATA4 data center in Cornaredo and at Equinix Milan 2 International Business Exchange (IBX) in Milan, the new PoPs add to the three existing sites in the metropolitan area, increasing the capillarity of Sparkle’s city ring, a protected and redundant system fully interconnected with Sparkle’s Tier-1 global IP backbone.

Local and international ISPs, content and application providers will benefit from high-speed and diversified global connectivity to the largest cities in Europe, North and Latin America, Africa and Asia and the Middle East, thus strengthening Milan digital ecosystem and its competitiveness in Europe. In addition to the IP transit service Seabone, Sparkle offers a complete range of IP and data services, including City2City, which offers dedicated and secure capacity to the main urban centers worldwide, and Virtual NAP, that allow customers to access the main internet exchange points without the need of building any proprietary infrastructure.
