CLEVELAND – 24 October 2019 – Champion ONE, a leading supplier of open optical network solutions, is announcing the general availability of a new line of 200G and 400G optical transceivers.
Multiple emerging trends are driving the need for 200G and 400G speeds in core networks and data centers across industries. For example, service providers will ultimately require 400G bandwidth to achieve the required throughput for 5G deployments. Similarly, rapid expansion in the data center market requires a high-capacity spine to support their modern spine-and-leaf architectures.
To meet these needs, Champion ONE’s initial portfolio includes shorter distances (70m to 10km) that are ideal for these applications and use cases. 200G transceivers will include double-density QSFP (QSFP-DD) and CFP2 form factors, while the 400G transceivers will include QSFP-DD and octal SFP (OSFP). While QSFP-DD offers higher port density and better backward compatibility with 100G transceivers, OSFP is believed to offer a better path to 800G and beyond. In the immediate future, it is expected that both form factors will play a key role in the marketplace.
“The rapid growth of internet traffic is requiring data centers and service providers to deploy higher capacity circuits rapidly,” said Tim Yanda, Director of Engineering and Product Development. “400G optical transceivers will pay a key role in helping service providers and data centers to achieve their goals. We’ve listened to our customers in these industries, and are excited to lead the way on 400G transceivers.”
These new products extend Champion ONE’s existing line of Passport universally compatible transceivers. They are built in compliance with their respective multi-source agreements.
