Verizon Response: Hurricane Dorian

September 6, 3:00 PM Update

What you need to know:

As Dorian creeps up the coast, Verizon’s network continues to perform well in the midst of the storm.
Unlimited calling, texting and data offer has been expanded to Verizon consumer (prepaid and postpaid) and small business customers in 19 additional coastal North Carolina counties impacted by Hurricane Dorian.
Our Verizon Response team remains available 24/7 and is coordinating with first responders on the ground in the impacted areas.
Network

As Dorian creeps up the coast, Verizon’s network continues to perform well in the midst of the storm. In South Carolina and Virginia, our network performance remains at pre-storm levels. In North Carolina, where the storm hit hardest, we are experiencing slight service interruptions on the barrier islands outside of Morehead City. All other North Carolina network performance remains at pre-storm levels. Throughout the coastal Carolina markets and Virginia, we have sites running on backup power as they are designed to do for reliability when commercial power is lost. Where it is safe to go out, our team has begun refueling operations to ensure sites remain in service for our customers and first responders. Our engineers have also begun site surveys and repairs to ensure continued service.

We have responded to requests for service at a local shelter where evacuees are staying and at a forward command center to support first responders in their efforts by deploying mobile assets that provide additional coverage where it’s needed most. We continue to stay vigilant and have mobile assets and emergency response teams in place to respond to Dorian’s continued impact in the Carolinas and Virginia.

Don’t Cut the Fiber

As recovery teams work to restore power and remove debris for impacted communities, we are calling on residents and other recovery teams in the areas to avoid cutting fiber lines. If you are working near fiber cables, please be aware that those lines are carrying traffic that supports first responders, cellular networks and life-saving communications. If you need to work nearby one of these cables, please call 811 for site coordination to ensure the communications are available for those impacted by the storm to connect with loved ones and the resources they need and so that first responders can conduct their mission critical work of search, rescue and recovery.

Community and First Responder Support

Beginning Friday, September 6 through September 9, Verizon is expanding its unlimited calling, texting and data offer to consumer and small business customers who live in the following coastal North Carolina counties: Bertie, Bladen, Camden, Chowan, Columbus, Edgecombe, Gates, Greene, Halifax, Hertford, Lenoir, Martin, Nash, Northampton, Pasquotank, Pitt, Robeson, Wayne, Wilson

Those counties join the following that were previously announced:

Verizon customers can help the American Red Cross or World Central Kitchen in their disaster relief efforts by texting the word DORIAN to 90999 for American Red Cross, or FOOD to 80100 for World Central Kitchen, and $10 will be added to their Verizon Wireless bill upon confirmation of the billing zip code. Customers looking to support the Florida Disaster Relief Fund can text DISASTER or DISASTER25 to 20222 and $10 or $25 respectively will be added to their Verizon Wireless bill.

As Dorian makes its way up the east coast, Verizon’s network performance in Florida and Georgia remains at normal pre-storm levels, and in South Carolina our network continues to withstand the severity of the storm’s impact with performance also at normal pre-storm levels
Unlimited calling, texting and data offer has been expanded to Verizon consumer (prepaid and postpaid) and small business customers in seven additional coastal North Carolina counties in the path of Hurricane Dorian
Our Verizon Response team remains available 24/7 and ready to coordinate with first responders should Dorian cause damage in any of the areas in the path of the storm
Network

As Dorian makes its way up the east coast, Verizon’s network performance in Florida and Georgia remains at normal pre-storm levels. In South Carolina our network is performing at pre-storm levels despite being battered by Dorian’s winds and flooding rains. With widespread commercial power losses throughout Charleston, some sites in South Carolina are running on backup power as they were designed with reliability in mind. Refueling operations will begin as soon as it is safe for our teams to venture out. This will ensure those sites without commercial power continue to remain in service for our customers and first responders. We continue to stay vigilant and have mobile assets and emergency response teams in place to respond to Dorian’s continued impact in the Carolinas.

All Verizon customers will receive unlimited texts and calling originating from the U.S. to the Bahamas, from September 2 through September 9, 2019 (applicable taxes and surcharges will apply).
Unlimited calling, texting and data offer has been expanded to additional Verizon consumer (prepaid and postpaid) and small business customers in Georgia and North Carolina in the path of Hurricane Dorian.
Our Verizon Response team is available 24/7 and ready to coordinate with first responders should Dorian cause damage in any of the areas in the path of the storm.
Following Hurricane Dorian’s battering of the Bahamas, we are offering support to our U.S. customers who are concerned about family and friends there. Verizon customers will receive unlimited calling and texting from the U.S. to the Bahamas, from September 2 through 9, 2019 (applicable taxes and surcharges will apply). Our Verizon roaming partner in the Bahamas is working quickly to restore services impacted by the storm and we will stay in contact with them as their work continues.

As Dorian makes its way up the coast of Florida, Verizon’s network has felt negligible impact with performance remaining at normal levels. We continue to stay vigilant and move mobile assets and Verizon Response teams up the coast to be ready for Dorian’s potential impact in Georgia and the Carolinas. Additionally, beginning Wednesday, September 4 through September 9, Verizon is expanding its unlimited calling, texting and data offer to consumer and small business customers who live in the following counties:
