AT&T Unveils New Call Center in Alief Community of Houston

Today, AT&T* unveiled our new 69,000 square-foot call center in the Alief community of Houston. This facility is part of our continuous efforts to elevate customer interactions, boost employee experiences and engagement and give back to the communities where we live and work.

Our modern call center includes technology – meeting rooms with digital whiteboards, teleconferencing, mobile coaching stations, among others – that gives employees the tools and training they need to help our customers. This center supports customers with multiple AT&T products and services.

“We’re proud our 500-plus center employees can call this location their new work home, said Jamie Barton, AT&T executive vice president of sales and service centers. “When planning and designing this location, we put a lot of thought and care into how we could make it a place employees could serve our customers well. We’ve also had the opportunity to bring in locals who are passionate about customer experience and are excited to see this team and center flourish.”

When it comes to providing the best customer service, our employees are our biggest strength. It’s imperative to support our team’s professional development, so this center offers a variety of programs to enhance our employees’ lives and careers.

“Living Your Best Life” is an initiative designed for personal and professional growth, with four pillars – financial, emotional, career and physical fitness. Center employees learn about tax tips, stress management, developing a professional presence, etc. through training and discussions. Other benefits include career advancement in the centers, attendance flexibility and on-site security and escorts, especially during evening hours.

Our employees work hard and play hard, so we made sure to include some special spaces for them recharge. They can enjoy a wellness area, a fun plex with video games and game tables and WOW rooms with TVs to experience our products and services. As many of our center employees are from Houston and the surrounding areas, we showcase that hometown pride with video walls displaying the city’s neighborhoods, landmarks and sports teams.

AT&T is committed to this city, and the call center is one aspect of our investment. The center will support AT&T’s Believe Houston℠ efforts as well to help causes that impact our employees. Believe Houston focuses on creating personal and education enrichment opportunities for youth (K-12) in underserved neighborhoods identified by the City of Houston’s Complete Communities initiative. We’re working with the city to expand opportunities in education, volunteerism and jobs.

In these Complete Communities, the average median income is below $35,000, which is 80 percent less than that of the rest of the city; unemployment rates are as high as 15 percent, while Houston overall unemployment rate is 4.5 percent; and upwards of 44 percent of residents do not have a HS diploma, compared to 23 percent for the rest of the city.

Many of the youth who reside in Houston’s Complete Communities experience generational poverty and the family effects of unemployment. Believe Houston is working to expand young people’s vision for their futures and what is possible for them.

With our call center located in Alief, one of the areas in the Complete Communities initiative, we’re looking forward to becoming a part of the neighborhood and supporting our local AT&T family, friends and neighbors.
