Hargray Acquires Florida-Based Dark Fiber Systems and Expands Southeastern Footprint

SAVANNAH, Ga. and JACKSONVILLE, Fla., May 2, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Hargray Fiber announced today that it has closed its previously announced acquisition of Dark Fiber Systems (“DFS”), a dark fiber provider in Jacksonville, FL.  The transaction further expands Hargray’s network in the southeast and positions the company to offer DFS customers and other Jacksonville businesses with the same robust suite of communications services currently available across Hargray’s four-state footprint.  This news follows Hargray’s recently announced acquisition of USA Communications’ Alabama assets as well as Hargray’s expansion into Conyers and Covington, Georgia.

Chris McCorkendale, Senior Vice President for Hargray Fiber, said, “On behalf of our 600 colleagues, we are pleased to announce the closing of the acquisition of Dark Fiber Systems and the resulting expansion of our network into northern Florida. Hargray is uniquely equipped to build upon the firm foundation built by Dark Fiber Systems since it was founded in 1996.  We look forward to further investing to support the economic growth of Jacksonville.”

In addition to the dark fiber that currently serves carriers and large enterprises, businesses in Jacksonville will have the ability to select from a full suite of advanced communication products and services including enhanced data, voice, and video services with Metro-Ethernet, multi-gigabit symmetrical circuits, colocation, Hosted Unified Communications, and video services customized for various commercial applications – all delivered over Hargray’s 100% fiber-optic network.

Integration plans are in process and will be complete this fall.  All of Dark Fiber Systems’ colleagues have joined Hargray, helping to ensure that operations continue as normal throughout the transition and customers will continue to receive the same services and support. Hargray will schedule meetings with each DFS customer to provide direct support throughout the transition.  Existing and future customers can also visit www.hargray.com/Jacksonville-FL or call 843.706.1800 to speak with one of Hargray’s customer-care specialists.
