Sets Up “Text To” Donation Code to Support Local Red Cross Efforts
In the wake of Sunday’s devastating tornadoes, AT&T* is bringing in network equipment, relief supplies and mobile charging stations for affected Alabama and Georgia residents. We have also created a texting donation campaign to support the Red Cross with its local efforts.
Our first priority is keeping our customers connected, including FirstNet subscribers. We know how critical communications are, so we’ve deployed a FirstNet SatCOLT (Cell on Light Truck) to support rescue and recovery efforts in the Talbotton, Ga. area. We are also bringing a COW (Cell on Wheels), a mobile tower and generators to Smiths Station, Ala. to help with communications there.
With the tornadoes leaving many without power, we want to provide a way for residents to charge their devices, so they can stay connected with loved ones. We have set up a charging station at the Providence Baptist Church at 2807 Lee Road 166 in Opelika and one at Sanford Middle School, 1500 Lee Road 11 in Opelika, the hub for first responders.
In addition to the mobile charging stations, AT&T employees donated water, batteries, nonperishable snacks, diapers, wipes, trash bags, toiletries, such as soap and deodorant, and more, to the Providence First Baptist Church, which is providing food and supplies to those impacted.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all impacted by yesterday’s tornados,” said AT&T Alabama president Wayne Hutchens. “At AT&T, we are committed to providing communication resources needed every day and especially so in times like these. We are also committed to doing what we can to help Lee County residents recover from this disaster, including helping them stay in touch with loved ones when they need to most.”
