Mobile World Congress never disappoints; and this year’s event most definitely lived up to expectations.

From showcasing how our edge-to-edge technologies provide near-real time intelligence for businesses on our booth, to announcing that we are teaming up with Vodafone Business to drive Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity in the automotive industry, Mobile World Congress 2019 has been a busy one for the AT&T team.

Being surrounded by some great examples of our work got me thinking about our recent successes, particularly within the IoT space and where the industry is headed.

Smart retail analytics

Crosscan, a retail analytics company headquartered in Witten, Germany, is trialing to determine how IoT could provide more growth and innovation. We have just completed a field test using the AT&T Global SIM to connect the sensors in its analytics technology. We’re excited about the possibilities as we dig into the results of the field test and develop useful learnings.

Crosscan has over 800 brands which rely on its technology for their retail data analysis. It’s one of the largest providers of footfall analytics for the retail and shopping market. And, in 2003, it became the inventor of the first cloud-based retail analytics platform. Watch the video above to listen to Crosscan’s Steffen Hamer, Global Partner Manager speaking at MWC.

Developments in IoT

IoT has already made our world more connected and is continuing to change the way we work and live.

From consumer electronics, smart cities, healthcare enhancements, to the way we manufacture products, grow crops, or drive trucks and cars, IoT is paving the way for a ‘smarter’ life. For example, a smart city could use IoT to power intelligent transport connections, as well as smart grids to regulate water, gas, and electricity. Intelligent lighting systems can react to traffic and pedestrians to keep our cities moving.

At this year’s MWC, we are showcasing how our IoT technology is supporting Softbox, a UK based company, to facilitate expert care in areas affected by natural disasters. Watch the video below to listen to Softbox’s Technical Director, Richard Wood, talking about this in more detail.

We find similar cutting-edge examples across nearly every industry around the world, which is why I’m always thrilled to hear about new developments in this area. We have accomplished so much in such a short space of time, but we’re still only scratching the surface of what’s possible.

By bringing together forward-looking ideas and industry leaders, it feels like anything is possible for IoT, a constantly evolving technology.

If you’re at MWC today, we would be delighted to see you at the AT&T Business Booth: #4D30; Hall 4.
