MIAMI – November 26, 2018 – Cyxtera Technologies, the secure infrastructure company, announced the expanded availability of its Cyxtera Extensible Data Center (CXD) platform in key markets. CXD is an intelligent, software-defined platform that enables customers to dynamically provision connectivity and dedicated hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) on-demand within and across Cyxtera data centers. Provisioned via API or web portal, enterprises leveraging CXD can easily procure, deploy, and configure services in less than a day, allowing for rapid expansion of existing colocation environments and speeding time to market in new locations.
CXD is immediately available in London and Washington, D.C. in addition to the company’s launch market of Dallas. Additional deployments will follow in early 2019 in New York, Chicago, Silicon Valley, and Phoenix.
Connectivity to CXD Compute Nodes is secured by Cyxtera’s Zero Trust solution, AppGate SDP. Cyxtera was recently named a Strong Performer in “The Forrester Wave™: Zero Trust eXtended Ecosystem Providers, Q4 2018.” Additionally, Cyxtera securely connects customers to a diverse ecosystem of network carriers, leading cloud providers and XaaS players via the Cyxtera Marketplace.
“We created CXD to bring cloud-speed provisioning and automation to colocation,” said Randy Rowland, President, Data Center Services for Cyxtera. “The success of our launch in Dallas led us to accelerate our deployment of CXD into six top tier markets. We’re discovering customers have an ever-increasing appetite for secure, cost-effective infrastructure that is available in hours, not months, yet still gives them complete control of their environment.”
“Organizations are navigating the complex, ever-changing IT landscape to improve operational efficiencies, maximize ROI, and support business imperatives,” said Buck Jones, Founder & CEO at Pegasus Technology Solutions. “As a Managed Service Provider and IT Solutions Integrator, our role is to help customers be successful without losing focus on their core business, exposing themselves to risk, or over-stretching their resources and budgets. CXD, with its on-demand HCI nodes, gives us a powerful solution to offer customers because it addresses pervasive issues associated with traditional infrastructure like inflated costs and long deployments, and limitations of the cloud; notably lack of infrastructure control. We can give customers a competitive advantage by designing a solution using CXD to solve these common problems quickly and cost-effectively.”
Customer Adoption Drivers
By 2025, 80 percent of enterprises will have shut down their traditional data center, versus 10 percent today, according to Gartner in its report, “Prepare for the Death of the Data Center as We Know It” (Published 22 May 2018, Authored by Tiny Haynes).
This reality is driving customers to seek alternative solutions, like hybrid infrastructure and the cloud. However, a cloud-first strategy isn’t suitable for every application or workload. Cyxtera believes these forces are accelerating interest in CXD, which offers features of the cloud – including speed, flexibility and a consumption-based model plus the added benefit of complete control of the computing environment. Use cases for CXD include VDI initiatives, private cloud build-outs, disaster recovery, dev/test labs and applications and workloads subject to regulatory compliance.
