Huawei’s Unified IP Rail Solution Empowers the Industry to Enter the All-IP Era

[Berlin, Germany, September 21, 2018] At the InnoTrans 2018 held in Berlin, Germany, with the rail industry’s all-IP trend, Huawei launched the unified IP rail solution. The solution allows a single network to support all production and OA services, reducing network construction costs. MPLS VPN technology isolates different kinds of services. IP hard pipe technology guarantees high SLA of mission-critical services, such as signaling and GSM-R. Huawei’s unified IP rail solution ensures secure and reliable train operation, and supports SDN and IPv6 technology for future-oriented evolution.

Rail services are gradually evolving into IP-based and broadband services. Previously, dispatching services only involved voice and narrowband data, but new dispatching systems provide converged voice, video, and broadband data services. Traditional Passenger Service Systems (PISs) only have simple text information, while new PIS systems provide extensive content via video broadcasting and broadband services.

Traditionally in the rail industry, multiple SDH networks were needed, including those for video surveillance, PIS, office, dispatching, and Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) systems. Different SDH networks act independently from each other. The network scalability is poor and the OPEX remains high. In light of these challenges, a unified network is required to carry multiple services, and more importantly, to adapt to new IP services.

Huawei’s unified IP rail solution features ultra-bandwidth, great security and reliability, simplified O&M, and innovative technologies. The solution adopts Huawei’s industry-leading NE series routers, supporting bandwidth evolution up to 100G/400G to satisfy the demand of video and other bandwidth-consuming services. MPLS VPN implements integrated multi-service transmission on a single network, reducing bandwidth costs and OPEX. The industry-unique IP hard pipe technology ensures reliable transmission of mission-critical services such as signaling and GSM-R. The BFD, FRR, and SAID technologies ensure millisecond-level fault recovery, eliminating service interruptions. Technologies such as Segment Routing, EVPN, IPv6, 1588v2, and FlexE support evolution to SDN, IPv6, LTE-R, and 5G. Abundant detection technologies and O&M methods, such as TWAMP, Y.1731, IPFPM, and Telemetry implement intelligent network O&M and safeguard rail transportation.

Ma Ye, Vice President of Huawei Router & Carrier Ethernet Product Line, said: “Huawei unified IP rail solution provides a wide range of innovative technologies, resolving problems in bandwidth, O&M, and security. The solution simplifies O&M and reduces OPEX. Considering the application scenarios in the transportation industry, Huawei’s NE series routers adopt strict industrial design to adapt to complex environments along rail lines. The solution has been widely deployed and put into commercial use worldwide, and highly recognized and praised by industry customers.”

Huawei’s unified IP rail solution will vigorously promote the intelligent transformation and enter the All-IP Era of rail transportation.
