New additions to the DISA Approved Product List (APL) provide DOD with scalable, carrier-grade solutions that improve network security and reduce VoIP migration costs
August 22, 2018
WESTFORD, Mass. – Ribbon Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: RBBN), a global leader in secure and intelligent cloud communications, today announced that its Session Border Controller 7000 (SBC 7000) and G5 Media Gateway have achieved Joint Interoperability Testing Command (JITC) certification by the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and are now available on the Approved Products List (APL). The SBC 7000 was architected to provide the industry’s highest capacity for scaling of real time communications (RTC) traffic and the G5 Media Gateway provides high-density support for analog line migrations. Ribbon’s carrier-grade scale enables the DoD to substantially reduce power, floor space, and maintenance costs. The SBC 7000 and G5 Media Gateway join an extensive line of Ribbon products already on the DISA Approved Products List including the SBC Software Edition (SWe), SBC 5110, SBC 5210, Voice Exchange 900 (VX 900) and the Application Server (as both an Enterprise and Local Session Controller).
The DISA APL provides a list of certified technology products for deployment in the U.S. DoD. The certification is a rigorous testing process, featuring comprehensive interoperability and information assurance tests to validate and certify vendor products for operation in DoD networks.
“The JITC certification of our SBC 7000 and G5 Media Gateway are the latest examples of our ongoing commitment to providing the DoD with the most extensive set of carrier-grade, best-in-class security and voice communications solutions,” said William Hartwell, Vice President, U.S. Federal Government Area, Ribbon Communications. “The G5 Media Gateway works in perfect harmony with our certified Application Server and third-party solutions. Adding the SBC 7000 means that nearly all of our core Session Border Controller solutions are now available on the DISA APL. We are extremely proud of the fact that Ribbon is one of the only vendors in the industry to have received certifications for both virtual and appliance-based solutions.”
“We are continually investing in DISA solutions and clearly leading the market in providing the latest in security and VoIP application technology to the DoD,” said Kevin Riley, Chief Technology Officer at Ribbon and Technical Contact for the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC). “Securing communications infrastructure is top of mind with our customers and our products play a critical role towards this end. We take this responsibility very seriously and this solution certification reflects our focus on bringing industry-leading security capabilities to market.”
Riley added, “Our comprehensive set of voice communications and security solutions allow us to scale and secure the smallest of enterprises up to the largest of deployments such as the Department of Defense.”
Ribbon recently announced that its JITC-certified Application Server was part of the largest VoIP deployment in DoD history, deploying more than 60,000 seats to the command and control organization.
The SBC 7000, which can scale up to 150,000 sessions via simple software licenses, was architected to provide the industry’s highest scaling capacity with fully enabled security, media and transcoding features, allowing operational teams to expand capacity in days, not months. The SBC 7000’s massive scale empowers service providers and large enterprises to leave behind traditional “racking and stacking” of small capacity SBCs to accommodate growth, resulting in faster deployment times and reduced operational expenses.
Ribbon’s G5 Media Gateway provides high-density support for analog device migrations with 768 ports per chassis frame. Additionally, it supports extended length legacy copper cabling, which is commonly deployed on military bases (supporting over 20,000 feet). The G5 can dramatically reduce the need to replace legacy analog devices or legacy cabling, making the migration to next-generation Internet Protocol (IP) and Unified Communications (UC) technology far more cost-effective and practical. The G5 allows the DoD, other enterprises and communications service providers to reduce operational and financial risks by seamlessly linking legacy communications lines to next-generation mobile, broadband, and SIP-based services. It is an ideal solution, in high-density implementations, for migrating from legacy-based (Nortel and other) systems to IP-based capabilities while maintaining endpoints and existing devices.
- Ribbon’s Session Border Controller 7000 and G5 Media Gateway have achieved Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) certification from the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and are now both available on the Approved Products List (APL) for deployment in the U.S. Department of Defense communications network.
- The DISA APL provides a list of certified technology products for deployment in the U.S. DoD.
- The SBC 7000 was architected to provide the industry’s highest capacity scaling of RTC traffic with fully-enabled security, media and transcoding features.
- The G5 Media Gateway allows the DoD to easily migrate legacy analog communications lines to next-generation technology and substantially reduce power, floor space and maintenance costs.
- Ribbon’s SBC 7000 and G5 Media Gateway are the company’s latest solutions to be JITC certified and placed on the APL. Other solutions include the SBC 5110, SBC 5210, Voice Exchange 900 (VX 900) and Application Server (as both an Enterprise and Local Session Controller).
- Now nearly the entire Ribbon SBC core portfolio is available on the APL. Ribbon boasts one of the most comprehensive sets of virtualized and appliance-based security, voice and applications communications solutions on the APL.
- Ribbon recently announced that its JITC-certified Application Server was part of the largest Voice over IP deployments in the DoD’s history, migrating more than 60,000 legacy seats to UC to technology.
