Future-ready scalable solution enables state-of-the-art, in-room IT services such as IPTV and Wi-Fi in the hotel
9 August, 2018
Seoul, South Korea – Nokia has completed the first phase of an Optical LAN deployment for the Jeju Shinhwa World in Jeju, South Korea. The deployment supports 1,326 hotel rooms and the hotel facility management including in-room IT services such as IPTV, VoIP, room control and Wi-Fi.
To provide hotel guests with seamless connectivity and services anywhere in the hotel, Nokia and its official Optical LAN partner, Netcurity, are deploying a fiber-based networking solution that delivers a long-term value proposition. The solution provides a Local Area Network (LAN) which is more flexible, scalable and secure than a traditional copper-based LAN technology. Easily and cost-efficiently upgraded to 10G or 40G speeds using the same infrastructure, the solution provides 200-times longer coverage from a single central location than copper-based LAN, and eliminates the need for equipment closets on each floor or at every 100 meters. It is also capable of supporting all video, voice and data requirements over a single fiber optic cable, effectively enhancing the security, reliability and scalability of the network. The high performance of the Nokia Optical LAN brings cost savings, resiliency and operational simplicity to the leading hotel resort in South Korea.
The Jeju Shinhwa World is a massive resort project currently in development by the Landing Jeju Development Co., Ltd. Spanning a site area of approximately 2.5 million square meters, the iconic integrated resort will include Jeju island’s largest family theme park and largest adventure waterpark and one of South Korea’s biggest retail and food and beverage complexes. On 3 August, Shinhwa Waterpark started operations. In terms of accommodation, the property will boast a range of premium hotels with more than 1,600 rooms and another 400 luxury serviced apartments and resort condominiums.
Jong-Rae Lee, Vice President of Landing Jeju Development Co., Ltd, said, “We needed a cost-efficient, fully scalable solution that would meet the demands of our growing customer base today and well into the future. The solution from Nokia has been able to keep our CAPEX and OPEX in check while being future-ready to support the expansion of new resorts as well as IT services. The Nokia Optical LAN solution also contributed greatly to the standardization of resort IT construction practices and operational efficiency.”
Andrew Cope, head of Nokia Korea, said, “Our Optical LAN solution is a cost-optimized, easy to deploy and scalable solution that helps address customers’ demands for an efficient, next-gen fiber deployment. The benefits of unlimited bandwidth, capacity and longevity make the solution an ideal fit for the customer’s growing communication requirements. This project is important for us as it marks our first large scale Nokia Optical LAN rollout in South Korea for the hospitality segment as well as highlights our success in expanding network business beyond our core operator market – a key element of our growth strategy.”
Technology used for the deployment:
-
Nokia’s 7360 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) FX serves as a high-capacity access node to meet current bandwidth demand and smoothly evolve to next-generation fiber technologies to meet future demands.
-
Nokia’s 7368 Intelligent Service Access Manager (ISAM) Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) deliver superior triple-play services with high bandwidth capacity to the end users.
-
Nokia’s 5571 PCC controls all LAN systems from one centralized advanced management platform optimized for performance and usability.
