Hawaiki selects TE SubCom for secondary Network Operations Center (NOC)

August agreement bolsters operational support for new transpacific cable system with landings in Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and mainland USA.

AUCKLAND, NZ and EATONTOWN, N.J., USA, August 27, 2018  Hawaiki Submarine Cable LP and TE SubCom, a TE Connectivity Ltd. company and an industry pioneer in undersea communications technology, today announced that they have signed a contract for the provision of backup Network Operations Center (B-NOC) services for the Hawaiki cable system from TE SubCom’s Eatontown, NJ, USA headquarters. SubCom’s NOC solutions are vendor-neutral and able to conform to customer requirements, integrating seamlessly into operational flow. Cable operators that depend on the long-term viability of their networks use SubCom’s NOC solutions because of its global, 24x7x365 monitoring coverage that can provide both high-level and regional visibility into network status.

Offered as part of the SubCom Global Services (SGS) portfolio, the B-NOC will provide an extra layer of operational security for the Hawaiki Cable System, which is primarily controlled via facilities located in Australia and New Zealand. SGS provides a broad range of technical services that span the entire lifecycle of a subsea fiber optic cable system, including: cable system planning and configuration; permit investigation; preventative asset protection; terrestrial infrastructure development; and operations, alarm, security and maintenance network management, thus enabling system owners to focus on their core business, while relying on TE SubCom’s industry expertise for the rest.

The Hawaiki Cable System is a 15,000km fiber optic cable connecting Sydney, Australia; Mangawhai Heads, New Zealand; Tafuna, American Samoa; Kapolei, Hawaii, USA; and Pacific City, Oregon, USA. Stubbed branching units have been installed to facilitate future connections into New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga.

“Our SGS team enables customers to focus on what they do best while relying on SubCom as a trusted partner for a wide variety of ancillary services throughout a project’s lifetime,” said Marc-Richard Fortin, director, Network Operation Center of TE SubCom. “Providing our B-NOC expertise for the Hawaiki Cable System is yet another example of the leading global services that SGS can provide to our clients.”

Commenting on the new agreement, Hawaiki’s Chief Network Officer, Florent Blot, said “We are committed to meeting the highest service standards to ensure our customers’ satisfaction and success. Network support and security are among our top priorities and this contract with TE SubCom will further enhance the resiliency of our NOC facilities, including control centers spread over three locations in New Zealand, Australia and the USA.”
