DE-CIX US update: More than 230 networks peer at our two US exchanges

During summer break, we take the opportunity to have a closer look across the Atlantic at the development of the DE-CIX US exchanges for a little half-year review. A lot has been going on since the first packets flew over the platform in New York back in 2014 and in Dallas back in 2016, and also since the beginning of this year.

19% customer growth in 2017, 10%+ customer growth in the first half of 2018

In New York, almost 190 networks are now connected or in the process of connecting. We are very eager to reach the magical 200 in time for our yearly New York Holiday party in New York in December (save the date: 4 December, New York!). If we do, we have one more good reason to celebrate.

In Dallas, we are close to reaching the number of 50 connected networks. This also is a great success, and together, more than 230 networks peer at the two exchanges; customer numbers since the end of 2017 grew by more than 10%.

AS origin: Clear differences between New York and Dallas

If we have a look at the AS origin of the networks that peer at the exchanges (based on PeeringDB information), we see a clear difference between them: 88% of the connected networks in Dallas come from the US, whereas in New York only 56% are from the US and more than 30% from the rest of the world. In comparison, at our flagship exchange in Frankfurt, Germany, 33% come from Germany.

We will observe the development and let you know if the proportion of foreign networks grows further at our US exchanges.
