DE-CIX has a long history of offering its knowledge and experience in planning, setting up, and running interconnection platforms to international third parties who want to build their own Internet Exchange. This sometimes includes financial help in order to support local ecosystems.
We are proud to sponsor IXP.mk, the new Macedonian Internet Exchange. DE-CIX is IXP.mk’s LIR sponsor for their network resources (IPv4 and IPv6 space and an ASN for the route server). We will cover the costs for up to three years.
The platform was initially formed as a science research project, in which the computer center of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering (FCSE) and computer center of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (UKIM) took part. The research project platform is to be transformed into an independent, non-for-profit IX, managed by the key players in the industry (academic institutions, ISPs, content providers, etc.).
