Announcing ADTRAN Mosaic™ Networking Functions that Work Seamlessly in Award-Winning Mosaic OS, White Box and Cloud Environments

Driving the future of networking with software architected for any open environment or operator network regardless of supplier component

HUNTSVILLEAla.– (August 23, 2018)—ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN, news, filings), the leading provider of next-generation open networking solutions, today announced at its 2018 CONNECT Press & Analyst Event another success in building network functionality and customization into its Mosaic Operating System—further proving how well Mosaic software works in all types of networks, white box and cloud environments and with a variety of different components—even competitor products.

“This latest development with our Mosaic software suite is truly exciting because it works as the industry always imagined—with dynamic, open network elements. Whether it is a Mosaic networking function covering carrier-grade NETCONF, vOMCI or analytics, these modules can all be seamlessly ported to open Linux platforms for integration with white box hardware solutions,” ADTRAN Director of Mosaic Portfolio Chris Thompson said. “Mosaic goes beyond other network element software schemes that have been marketed as modern access architectures, which are supposed to be open, flexible software components and best-of-bread hardware. Proprietary software components and legacy, monolithic systems split across multiple boxes that only work with one another aren’t the answer. Service providers have taken a lead role in building next-gen architectures and recognize these closed systems as yet another attempt at vendor lock-in.”

The highly-awarded Mosaic suite stands as the industry’s first open, disaggregated Software Defined Access (SD-Access) architecture with proven interoperability with all types of carriers, networks and supply partners. As the most awarded SD-Access solution, Mosaic helps operators build in the modularity needed for flexible, dynamic networks with components placed at the right place in the network to help reduce costs and plan for innovations that allow networks to grow without disruption. For example, the Mosaic Network Functions portfolio now includes a new and updated Network Configuration Protocol component that is integrated into second generation DPUs for multi-vendor interoperability. Carriers and service providers can leverage this component in any ADTRAN solution needing NETCONF support—or ultimately—in other open, third party platforms for consistent implementation across the network.

“We want customers to continue asking – ‘Are you going to be open like ADTRAN?’” Thompson said. “The mindset around how to architect networks in a disaggregated way is changing rapidly and Mosaic is helping our customers feel confident in ADTRAN’s commitment to work within any environment, in any way and with any player in the market. That even includes our traditional competitors if they are willing to follow our lead, embrace a new way of thinking and open up their systems. That’s a radical shift in how things have been done in the past and how networks will be built going forward.”
