Turkcell subscribers attending one of Turkey’s best-known arenas – the Ülker Sports Arena in Istanbul – are getting better data user experiences thanks to the implementation of Ericsson Elastic Radio Access Network (Elastic-RAN).
The venue hosts major sporting events and concerts. The boost in capacity has resulted in uplink user throughput increases of up to 20 percent during events.
Gediz Sezgin, Chief Technology Officer, Turkcell, says: “As Turkcell, we have the widest spectrum in Europe. Thanks to this spectrum, we are one of the seven operators in the world that can deliver speed above gigabit, according to the Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) report. With this widest spectrum, we always aim to offer the highest speeds to our customers.”
Ralf Pichler, Head of Ericsson Turkey, says: “As mobile broadband traffic continues to grow within operator networks, tight interworking between the network radio resources is very important to maintain good network performance. I am pleased to partner with Turkcell and implement Ericsson’s innovative Elastic RAN solution that enhances the mobile broadband experience within the Ülker Sports Arena. The Ericsson Elastic RAN solution provides optimal and borderless coordination for superior user performance and lays out a future-proof architecture for 5G.”
About E-RAN
With Ericsson E-RAN, an unlimited number of cells can be coordinated across the entire network, providing great flexibility in the aggregation of the different network cell carriers independent of user location. Coordinating and aggregating cell carriers improves user data speeds and overall network performance.
Elastic RAN is part of the Ericsson Cloud RAN solution. It was developed specifically to improve the user’s mobile broadband experience through elastic coordination of users and cells. Ericsson’s Elastic RAN is managed through software functionality, focusing on increased spectrum efficiency, full deployment flexibility, and elasticity.
