Verizon lends its expertise and support to non-profit alliance promoting open standards and interoperability across public safety networks, services and applications.

ASHBURN, VA – Verizon joins industry and public safety leaders in announcing its support for a new alliance created to promote the advancement of open, standards-based, and interoperable communications for the nation’s first responders. The Public Safety Technology Alliance (PSTA) will help promote the development and adoption of open, best-in-class, standards-based technologies to ensure interoperability between different networks, applications, and databases.

Public Safety Technology Alliance

“When it comes to saving lives, open and interoperable technologies are critical to ensuring that first responders can continue to communicate across networks to address their mission critical requirements,” said Mike Maiorana, Senior Vice President, Public Sector, Verizon Enterprise Solutions. “We look forward to lending our voice and broad expertise in public safety to help the PSTA advance its mission and ensure our first responder community has access to the best, open and interoperable technology available.”

Verizon’s role in the alliance will be as a member of its Executive Advisory Council, which will provide advice, insights, and recommendations to the PSTA Board. Nick Nilan, Director, Public Sector Product Development, Verizon Enterprise Solutions, will represent Verizon on the council.

Verizon’s 4G LTE network covers more than 98 percent of the U.S. population and spans 2.57 million square miles, more than 400,000 square miles more than its next largest competitor, AT&T. Verizon’s recently launched public safety private core provides several key features to public safety customers including traffic segmentation, priority and preemption, improved security and enhanced service management and control. The public safety private core separates data traffic of public safety users from commercial users across our network. The network leverages leading edge networking technology to provide security, flexibility and reliability.
