TE SubCom Hits 3000km Production Milestone of Next-Generation SL17 Submarine Cable

EATONTOWN, N.J., USA, May 4, 2018 – TE SubCom, a TE Connectivity Ltd. company and an industry pioneer in undersea communications technology, today announced that production of a new version of the company’s SL17 cable, the A1 variant, is well underway and available to customers. This new cable type features a similar structure to the standard SL17 cable product but with a more compact assembly resulting in a design that has been refined for certain applications. Additionally, the new cable’s nominal transient tensile strength has been optimized to 50 kN to meet today’s high-performance cable requirements. To date, more than 3000 km of the A1 variant have been produced and production continues at a high rate with more than 10,000 km already contracted.

“Our tried and true SL17 cable product has been an industry standard for years, known for its reliability and flexibility,” said Dean Wahlberg, vice president of manufacturing operations at TE SubCom. “Designed in response to customer demands, we’re pleased to bring the new A1 product to market, and are looking forward to adding this cable to our already comprehensive list of available products.”

To meet demand for this cable product, an additional power conductor line has been added to SubCom’s Newington, NH factory to further enhance production capabilities.
