Sprint Statement on FCC’s Adoption of Order that Accelerates Wireless Broadband Deployment by Removing Barriers to Infrastructure Investment

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — March 22, 2018 — Today, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted to adopt an order Accelerating Wireless Broadband Deployment by Removing Barriers to Infrastructure Investment. In response, Sprint (NYSE:S, news, filings) released the following statement attributed to Vonya B. McCann, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs:

“The Commission’s action today is a tremendous step forward in reforming the regulatory processes required by the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The Order appropriately acknowledges that small cell deployments are fundamentally different from traditional wireless cell sites. Sprint wholeheartedly supports appropriate historic and environmental protections, but over the last 14 years, it became abundantly clear that the review system was broken. This resulted in massive costs and significant delays placed on wireless deployment with few corresponding benefits. Looking ahead, streamlining and accelerating the deployment of small cells will greatly benefit consumers across the country as Sprint works to build the first 5G mobile network in the U.S. We thank the FCC, particularly Commissioner Brendan Carr, for his thoughtful work on this issue.”
