Sacramento-IX Deploys Primary Internet Exchange Hub in QTS Sacramento Data Center
OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Feb. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Responding to increasing demand for diverse interconnection and connectivity solutions, QTS Realty Trust (QTS), a leading provider of software-defined data center and managed services, today announced that the Sacramento Internet Exchange (Sacramento-IX) will deploy its primary Internet Exchange hub within QTS’ Sacramento data center.
Sacramento-IX is the first internet exchange in Sacramento and is being driven by increased network traffic performance demands in the region. Sacramento-IX’s deployment expands QTS’ Internet ecosystem and simplifies network strategies by providing diverse connectivity options allowing customers to manage network traffic in a cost-effective way.
Deployment solidifies QTS Sacramento as one of the most interconnected data centers in Northern California and as a primary west coast connectivity gateway for key fiber routes to Denver, Salt Lake City and points east. QTS Sacramento features 13 on-net network Service Providers offering a growing customer base a full suite of enterprise class carrier services.
Commenting on the deployment, Brent Bensten, CTO – Product Development, QTS, said, “Once considered the backup and recovery outpost for the Bay area, Sacramento has quickly become a highly interconnected and a geostrategic network hub for northern California, and represents another example of QTS’ effort to expand carrier neutral connectivity options for customers in all of our data centers.”
Sacramento-IX was started in the fall of 2016 by Ninja-IX and joins Richmond IX as the latest connectivity hub established in a QTS data center. QTS is planning to deploy similar regional connectivity hubs across its national portfolio.
“Developing a new Internet exchange in Sacramento is a great opportunity for the peering community to grow,” said Paul Emmons, Executive Director of Sacramento-IX. “As the initial facility, QTS will provide access to some of the largest networks available, allowing us to offer enhanced peering services to the market.”
Sacramento-IX is part of Ninja-IX Corporation, a not for profit corporation that operates exchanges in Honolulu, Las Vegas and Phoenix and manages Richmond-IX. Since 2012 our goal is to provide local peering fabrics in locations that are under served or cost prohibitive. Currently all of our projects feature no monthly service charge from the IX. Ninja-IX provides exchange-based Brocade Switches with Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) interconnection, BIRD Route Servers and 24×7 monitoring and is maintained by volunteers. Critical internet infrastructure such as Root Servers and as112 services are also colocated in our fabrics. Major US content delivery networks (CDNs) are participants in our various projects.
