Herndon, VA – January 16, 2018 – EdgeConneX®, specializing in global data center solutions at the edge of the network, today announces its first Edge Data Center® (EDC) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Together with the Argentina Investment and Trade Promotion Agency (AAICI), telecommunications service provider, Silica Networks, and an extensive network of ecosystem and peering partners, this new EDC will provide underserved regions in South America with high-quality, low-latency content delivery, cloud access and international interconnectivity in an N+1 and carrier neutral facility.

The multi-tenant EDC will be located at Parque Industrial Pilar, one of the largest industrial districts in South America, which serves as the hub to hundreds of national and multinational companies.  While developing their highly-interconnected facility, EdgeConneX has built a strong ecosystem of industry partners that will offer services from the Buenos Aires EDC.  In addition to Silica Networks, this ecosystem includes Claro ArgentinaInternexaIPLANMetrotelTelecom Argentina, and access to regional Internet exchanges.

“We are very excited to welcome EdgeConneX’s innovative Edge Data Center model to Argentina, which is clearly in line with Argentina’s Data Center Promotion Project, an Argentine government effort led by the Argentina Investment and Trade Promotion Agency,” says Francisco Cabrera, Minister of Production of Argentina.  “The new Buenos Aires EDC will provide the region with economic growth through the introduction of cutting-edge technology and connectivity, making Argentina a more attractive location for data investment by enterprises across a wide range of industries.”

The Buenos Aires EDC will serve as a robust connectivity and peering platform, offering extensive fiber, density and peering options to customers with wholesale economics.   As a result, enterprises and organizations throughout the region will gain access to low-latency connectivity and content delivery, as well as advanced cloud and communications services previously unavailable to the region.

“We are pleased to embrace EdgeConneX and their new facility here in Pilar,” notes Nicolas Ducote, Mayor of Pilar.  “We are delighted that they chose our city as their inaugural locale in South America.  Their investments will contribute to the development and growth of a vast Internet ecosystem and we look forward to supporting their effort across Argentina.”

In collaboration with its customers, EdgeConneX has recognized the need for Edge services across the globe as cloud applications require localization and availability in the most proximate location to enterprise and consumer end-users.

“We are thrilled to extend the Internet’s Edge into South America, specifically into the Buenos Aires market,” says Clint Heiden, chief commercial officer, EdgeConneX.  “As we continue to expand the edge globally in partnership with our customers, we look forward to enhancing the Internet in Buenos Aires by facilitating the fastest and most reliable delivery of cloud, content, network and other services closer to their end users.”
