Equinix now offering AWS Direct Connect availability in fifteen metropolitan areas globally
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. and SAO PAULO, May 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Equinix, Inc. (NASDAQ: EQIX), a global interconnection and data center company, today announced the immediate availability of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Direct Connect service in its São Paulo International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centers. With AWS Direct Connect, companies can connect their customer-owned and managed infrastructure directly to AWS, establishing a private connection to the cloud that can reduce costs, increase performance, and deliver a more consistent network experience.
Cloud computing is growing at a rapid pace across Latin America. According to a recent IDC report*, the adoption of cloud services inLatin America will grow at double-digit rates for the next four years, reaching an estimated growth of 25.8 percent by 2019, worth a total of US$6.5 billion. By continuing the growth of AWS Direct Connect in Latin America, and specifically Brazil, Equinix and AWS are enabling enterprise CIOs to advance their cloud strategies by seamlessly and safely incorporating public cloud services into their existing architectures.

- Equinix’s São Paulo campus consists of four data centers comprised of 13,000 square meters (145,000 square feet) of colocation space. They are home to more than 1,000 companies, comprising a dense concentration of financial services firms, cloud service providers, digital content providers and social media platforms. Equinix customers in São Paulo also have complete access to exclusive Equinix Brazil Managed Services portfolio.
- Equinix São Paulo data centers are some of Brazil’s leading carrier-neutral data center providers. São Paulo customers can choose from a broad range of network service providers while interconnecting directly to customers and partners in their digital supply chains. By adding AWS Direct Connect to these facilities, Equinix is providing customers with an ideal location for them to host cloud services and help address any data privacy or data sovereignty issues.
- With the addition of São Paulo, Equinix now offers the AWS Direct Connect service in Amsterdam, Chicago, Dallas, Frankfurt, Los Angeles, London, Munich, Osaka, Sao Paulo, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo and Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia. Equinix customers in these metros will be able to lower network costs on AWS and take advantage of reduced AWS Direct Connect data transfer rates.
