DALLAS, Feb. 23, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Windstream (WIN), a leading provider of advanced network communications, today announced a major expansion of its advanced metro fiber network in Dallas. Windstream’s expansion will provide the area’s growing business community with world-class fiber and fixed-wireless infrastructure that connects even more local data centers and commercial buildings with Windstream’s high-speed, highly available nationwide fiber network.
“Our expansion in Dallas is part of an ongoing initiative to upgrade our high-speed fiber network infrastructure, including both our long-haul network nationwide and our metro fiber networks in specific markets,” said Chris Nein, regional president for Windstream. “This ambitious project will result in a new level of connectivity and network stability for businesses in the Dallas area, and we are proud to support the city’s business community in this important way.”
Windstream’s expansion initially will benefit business customers in Dallas’ Central Business District (including Downtown Dallas and the Uptown, City Place and Turtle Creek areas), as well as the city’s Design and Medical districts. Additional Windstream expansions in the near future will expand access in the Park Cities, Preston Hollow, Galleria, and Addison areas, along with the 635 Corridor. It will also connect the Richardson Telecom Corridor, the Plano/Legacy Business Park area and Las Colinas/Irving Business Center.
The Windstream expansion increases both the footprint of the company’s network and the services that are available to local customers – including fixed wireless service, unified communications, managed services, network security, business continuity, network solutions and cloud services, all of which are provided with the support of a truly local team. This expansion also will allow Dallas-area business customers to utilize the enterprise-class data, voice, network and cloud services that Windstream customers in other major markets use as the foundation of their technology strategy.
One example of a Dallas-based company that will benefit from an expanded metro fiber network and the increased competition that will come with it is ClubCorp. Founded in 1957, ClubCorp owns or operates more than 200 golf and country clubs, business clubs, sports clubs and alumni clubs in 26 states, the District of Columbia and two foreign countries.
“At ClubCorp, we are thrilled with the benefits we’ve seen since partnering with Windstream for our enterprise-wide voice and data needs,” said Patrick Benson, chief information officer, ClubCorp. “By collaborating with Windstream we are transforming all aspects of our existing and future telecom space across ClubCorp, while providing agile services, cost savings, and significantly reducing the time to market for our business. Our partnership with Windstream is helping us proactively respond to business needs, deliver an overall better IT experience, and focus our internal energy on servicing our members and clubs.”
Windstream is expanding local metro fiber and fixed wireless networks across the country as part of an initiative that will support customers in the banking, financial services, legal services, education, healthcare, government, hospitality and retail industries, among others. In addition to this expansion in Dallas, Windstream is expanding its metro fiber networks in a number of other cities including Charlotte, Nashville, Richmond, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, St. Louis, Detroit and Philadelphia.
