Expansion is part of Windstream’s multi-city campaign to connect even more data centers and commercial buildings to company’s national backbone
“Our expansion in St. Louis is part of an ongoing initiative to upgrade our high-speed fiber network infrastructure, including both our long-haul network nationwide and our metro fiber networks in specific markets,” said Chris Nein, regional president for Windstream. “This ambitious project will result in a new level of connectivity and network stability for businesses in St. Louis, including in the Central Business District, Olivette and Maryland Heights areas. We are proud to support the city’s business community in this important way.”
The Windstream expansion increases both the footprint of the company’s network and the services that are available to local customers – including SD-WAN, Wavelengths, Cloud Connectivity, Ethernet networking, Unified Communications, managed network security and cloud services all of which are provided with the support of a truly local team. This expansion also will allow St. Louis -area business customers to utilize the enterprise-class data, voice, network and cloud services that Windstream customers in other major markets use as the foundation of their technology strategy.
One example of a St. Louis-based company that will benefit from an expanded metro fiber network and the increased competition that will come with it is Aegion Corporation, whose subsidiary companies are global leaders in infrastructure protection. They also provide proprietary technologies and services for the corrosion protection of industrial pipelines and for rehabilitating and strengthening sewer, water, energy and mining piping systems, buildings, bridges and tunnels and waterfront structures.
“Aegion serves our thousands of domestic customers from more than 50 locations throughout the United States, and it is critical that we have access to cost effective and highly reliable communications infrastructure,” said Thys Lourens, vice president and chief information officer for Aegion Corporation. “Windstream’s willingness to invest in the markets its serves makes a meaningful difference to the local business communities. In St. Louis, it will increase the reach and reliability of the network we use, as well as bring additional services and competition to the market that will benefit all businesses here.”
Windstream is expanding local metro fiber and fixed wireless networks across the country as part of an initiative that will support customers in the banking, financial services, legal services, education, healthcare, government, hospitality and retail industries, among others. In addition to this expansion in St. Louis, Windstream is expanding its metro fiber networks in a number of other cities including Charlotte, Nashville, Richmond, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland and Philadelphia.
