Ericsson supports OpenECOMP Management and Orchestration initiative

Recognizing the importance of industry alignment in cloud management and orchestration, Ericsson is supportive of AT&T in its initiative with OpenECOMP. Under the Linux Foundation, OpenECOMP will provide automation and management software to the open source community to accelerate the development and adoption of new technologies in the carrier ecosystem.

Ericsson shares AT&T’s vision of a modular and model-driven management and orchestration system with analytics and policy-based control. The company wants to accelerate industry alignment in Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN) management and orchestration. To this end, Ericsson will support service providers who deploy OpenECOMP and work with AT&T to encourage industry alignment.

Projects like OpenStack, Linux, OpenDaylight and OPNFV have established clear technology foundations for a healthy ecosystem. These projects allow network operators to address the challenge of crafting services from these components in a sustainable manner. Ericsson will support different open source orchestration and management projects, like OpenECOMP, that establish a clear method to articulate and communicate the operational needs of carriers for next generation networks.

Ericsson will continue to collaborate and contribute toward these open source communities to achieve our vision of deploying best-in-class application and platform capabilities enabling SDN, NFV and Cloud automation in carrier networks.

Ulf Ewaldsson, Ericsson’s Chief Strategy and Technology Officer, says: “Network Functions Virtualization is about developing software that enables the best usage of underlying common hardware platforms, while employing the agility and flexibility of a cloud environment. Ericsson, a global leader in NFV/SDN Infrastructure, Network Applications, and Management and Orchestration, is highly supportive of the open source development in this area, and Ericsson will continue to engage and drive the industry alignment.”

Ericsson has developed significant capabilities and experience working with Communication Service Providers (CSPs) globally in developing, delivering, and supporting efficient management and orchestration solutions for NFV/SDN. Ericsson will continue to engage with leading CSPs, NFV solution providers, and System Integrators to ensure the values of OpenECOMP are demonstrated in carrier network Management and Orchestration.
