SALT LAKE CITY – CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE:CTL, news, filings) recognized Lt. Regina Nelson with the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division as the Utah Public Safety Person of the Year. This new award, which acknowledges the contributions of emergency call takers and dispatchers, was presented today during CenturyLink’s 911 Utah Summit held at the company’s downtown offices.
“Regina goes above and beyond the call of duty every day and provides tremendous service to the people of Utah,” said CenturyLink Vice President of Utah Operations Jeremy Ferkin. “Often times the critical role that emergency call takers and dispatchers play is overlooked, which is why CenturyLink established the Utah Public Safety Person of the Year award. We are pleased to be honoring Regina with the inaugural award.”
CenturyLink’s annual 911 Utah Summit brings together technology providers and innovators to discuss the way the state’s 911 public safety answering points (PSAPs) function today and tomorrow. CenturyLink is a 911 network provider and also supplies 911 call-taking equipment to PSAPs throughout the state of Utah.
“Regina is very well respected throughout the state of Utah for her progressive thinking in dispatching and over the years has established herself as a true expert in the field,” said Sheriff Paul Wimmer of the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office. “She is conscientious about ensuring the practices in her dispatch center keep officers as safe as possible and is very deserving of CenturyLink’s Utah Public Safety Person of the Year honor.”
Nelson has been with the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office since 1989. She is a member of the 911 advisory board, which provides recommendations to the Utah Communications Authority about how to best support dispatch centers throughout the state, including the implementation of modern technologies to keep 911 services operating smoothly.
