Sterling Ranch partners with CenturyLink for first 1 Gig community in Colorado

Fiber connectivity provides one of the fastest residential Internet speeds available and makes infrastructure adaptable in 21st century community

Sterling Ranch

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. – Sterling Ranch, Colorado, Lumiere Fiber, and CenturyLink today announced that together, they will provide one of the fastest residential Internet speeds available in the U.S. to residents of the mixed-use, master-planned community in northwest Douglas County. CenturyLink will be the exclusive broadband provider for Sterling Ranch, delivering gigabit Internet service over Lumiere’s fiber-optic network that delivers fiber to every home. This is the first time CenturyLink has brought gigabit service to an entire community in Colorado.

“Fiber provides Sterling Ranch residents with one of the most in-demand amenities for a 21stcentury community – fast Internet speeds and the bandwidth for them to use technology in a way that enhances their lives,” said Brock Smethills, chief operating officer of Lumiere Fiber, LLC, an affiliate of Sterling Ranch Development Company. “We are confident that CenturyLink will provide exceptional gigabit Internet service to meet our residents’ needs, both now and in the future as technologies change and the Internet of Things becomes more prolific.”

Sterling Ranch residents will be connected to fiber from the first day in their new homes. The Internet service, with speeds up to 1 gigabit per second, will be offered at a special rate of $85 per month, with a wireless access point included and the opportunity to add on Prism® TV and other CenturyLink services at an additional charge.

“CenturyLink has one of the largest gigabit service offerings in the country, and we are proud to expand that service, with speeds up to 1 gigabit per second, to Sterling Ranch,” said Penny Larson, vice president of operations in Colorado for CenturyLink. “Beginning with our service to its first residents, we look forward to our continued partnership as the community grows to more than 12,000 residences.”

Beyond delivering some of the fastest residential Internet speeds available today, Sterling Ranch invested in its fiber-optic network to support the community’s intelligent infrastructure. Fiber provides both the connectivity and flexibility to adapt to future technologies.

“Sterling Ranch’s vision to elevate their infrastructure to give residents forward-thinking digital experiences like eHealth, distance learning, community engagement and smart home control presents a unique opportunity for CenturyLink to deliver an exceptional broadband service offering speeds up to 1 gigabit per second to an entire community,” added Chris Denzin, vice president national field and partner sales for CenturyLink. “We look forward to working with like-minded developers who see gig speeds and fiber as a path to enhance their communities.”

The partnership was officially announced at the recently opened CenturyLink Solutions Store, located at 930 15th St. in Denver. Colorado Senate Majority Leader Mark Scheffel and State Representative Kim Ransom joined CenturyLink and Sterling Ranch executives in the announcement and expressed the importance of connectivity and technology integration in community development. Community leaders attended from the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Douglas County Economic Development Corporation, One Roxborough, Roxborough Business Association, and South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce, among others.

With site work currently underway and dry utilities including fiber being installed this fall, seven homebuilders will soon break ground on model homes in Sterling Ranch’s first of nine villages. Providence Village will ultimately include a new K-8 school with input on design and curriculum from Vanderbilt University, a church, a civic center, a recreation center, and 85 acres of scenic open space, as well as a series of local parks. The pedestrian-friendly community, which will continue to be built out over approximately 20 years, will connect 30 miles of internal trails, open space, two adjacent state parks and three regional parks.

Sterling Ranch is located in northwest Douglas County south of C-470 and the Chatfield Reservoir and west of Santa Fe Drive. For more information, visit www.sterlingranchcolorado.com.
