(18 Aug 2016, Hong Kong) — Comba Telecom Systems Holdings Limited (“Comba Telecom” or “the Group”), a global leading wireless solutions provider, is enabling mobile device users enjoy a ubiquitous and high capacity wireless experience at the soccer stadiums hosting the 2016 Summer Games currently being held in Rio de Janeiro and other cities around Brazil.
Comba Telecom has implemented multiple projects across Brazil to ensure users at the 2016 Summer Games are connected at all times. The importance of wireless connectivity being “always-on, always-available” is further heightened when considering workers and officials at the Games will also be using the wireless networks Comba Telecom has deployed as an additional communication and co-ordination tool. As such, the successes and high performance of the deployed wireless solutions are a cause for celebration thus far.
The 2016 Games called upon the use of the stadiums that hosted the 2014 world soccer tournament. Comba Telecom had implemented 2G/3G/4G distributed antenna systems (DAS) at eight of the twelve stadiums, and now, four of those (Sao Paulo, Salvador, Brasilia and Manaus) are hosting the soccer tournaments for the Games.
With even higher demands and expectations on wireless network performance from end-users, Comba Telecom implemented upgrades and installed new equipment to further enhance network capacity and speed. These included:
- Network design review and enhancement
- DAS system and antenna placement and optimization for improved coverage
- Spectrum refarming and implementation of LTE 2600MHz MIMO for enhanced network performance
To further enhance capacity and offload data traffic from the wireless networks Comba Telecom was tasked with supplying new Wi-Fi system designs for several of the Olympic venues. These system designs called for a comprehensive walkthrough and measurement of the stadium to identify high traffic areas, planning and dimensioning of capacity. The designs also included specification of product types and positioning of access points in order to meet the expected demands which were then deployed by the main contractor in this case.
However, Comba Telecom’s solution does not end here. With the Games ongoing, and the world watching, Comba Telecom’s service extends to live monitoring and remedial services. For every soccer match, technical engineers are on standby inside the stadiums and on-site at the network operation centers of Comba and the operators to ensure a smooth network performance and optimal 3G/4G data traffic offload to the Wi-Fi network.
Mr. Johnny Brito, General Manager, Comba Telecom Brazil said, “It’s been two years since the original DAS implementation and user behavior has changed enormously. 2014 World Cup was famous as the ‘Selfies Cup’, today’s users are demanding a different experience such as live video streaming and other data intensive activities especially on intervals, thus driving all operators to improve and optimize their LTE networks for this event. We are pleased with the performance of our solution thus far and will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the success of this project.”
Mr. Simon Yeung, President of Comba Telecom Systems International added, “We are proud of the robustness of our solution which has stood the test of time and proven itself to be easily upgradeable and flexible to adapt to the needs of today’s mobile consumers. The expertise and dedication of our service and support teams are essential parts of Comba Telecom’s success in bringing ‘outstanding’ solutions rather than merely ‘good’ solutions for our customers.”
