pre-game ceremonies
PHOENIX – June 2, 2016 – A total of 48 Phoenix-area teens, ages 14-16, will have the unique opportunity to experience the historic 2016 Copa América Centenario games directly from the field. Sprint (NYSE:S, news, filings), the official sponsor of 2016 Copa América Centenario has teamed up with the Arizona Youth Soccer Association (AYSA), allowing players to represent the city as flagbearers during the pre-game ceremonies for the matches on June 5, 8, and 25 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ.
“Sprint is proud to be a sponsor of the 100th anniversary of this internal tournament, but more importantly that we can involve the teens from AYSA soccer for this once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Cody Welker, general manager-Arizona at Sprint. “We are committed to serving the customers of Phoenix and, not only providing the region with great service, but deepening our roots within the community to give back.”
“We are grateful to Sprint for presenting us with this amazing opportunity for the boys and girls of the AYSA to experience the game at its highest level and to be a part of the action on the field,” said Rick Kelsey, president of Arizona Youth Soccer Association.
The flagbearers’ responsibilities include leading the referees and players onto the pitch for the start of the match and to position the country flags for the playing of the national anthems of the competing teams.
All of the flagbearers and their chaperones will be provided tickets to watch the matches, meals and refreshments and uniforms.
