Paris and Boston, May 30, 2016 – Seaborn Networks, a preeminent developer-owner-operator of subsea fiber optic cable systems, and Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks (ASN), now part of Nokia, announced today they have won the 2016 Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award for Wholesale Service Innovation.
This distinguished award is in recognition of the development and building of Seaborn’s Seabras-1 US-Brazil subsea cable system. Seaborn is the developer and operator and, together with Partners Group, owns the system. ASN is building the system for Seaborn on a turnkey basis.
Seaborn completed its US$500 million financing for the 72Tbps Seabras-1 system in Q4 2015. Manufacturing of the full system is ongoing and, when completed in Q2 2017, will provide the first-ever direct point-to-point route between New York City and Sao Paulo.
