ORS Enhances Premium Picture Quality and Bandwidth Efficiency with Cisco Digital Content Manager

Cisco Digital Content Manager Encoding and Transcoding Technology Extends ORS Playout Systems for DVB-T2 Channels

LAS VEGAS, NAB, April 19, 2016 – ORS Group, a leading Digital Content Gateway Provider in Austria, has deployed Cisco digital content management technology to further improve its ORS DVB-T2 (simpliTV) digital terrestrial television offering.

ORS has been working closely with Cisco on a technology refresh of its platform to deliver better picture quality while preserving bandwidth for its digital terrestrial TV offering in Austria.

The Cisco® solution is powered entirely by the D9902 Digital Content Manager® (DCM), helping ORS to use less bandwidth to distribute more services faster over the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) distribution network.

Today’s digital systems demand powerful, flexible solutions that allow content providers and service providers to rapidly support better experiences and new network architectures.

The Cisco DCM Series D9902 Digital Content Manager is a compact, versatile two-rack unit (2RU) platform that supports various applications ranging from content contribution, content production, primary and secondary distribution, encryption and more.

Why Cisco DCM:

  • Offers flexibility and modularity on one common platform
  • Delivers unmatched service uptime and redundancy support
  • Provides low total cost of ownership (TCO) with a significant reduction in operation costs and energy savings
  • Offers the potential to expand into a unique hybrid platform with the Cisco Virtual Digital Content Manager (vDCM), andVirtualized Video Processing Platform

“With Cisco we continue to build upon a strong future-proof and flexible platform to support our multiple business models,” said Norbert Grill, technical director, ORS Group. “ORS is actively involved in shaping the Austrian television and radio market, and is safeguarding its leading position through customer-oriented innovations. In a time of critical industry transition, we trust in Cisco´s experience in video processing and its strong partnerships.”

“The DCM has been a key component in our customers’ headends over the years,” said Yves Padrines, vice president, Global Service Provider EMEAR, Cisco. “Originally used for signal multiplexing, it has proven to be a versatile platform that scales to support a wide variety of video functions, and it can easily support a hybrid virtual solution in the future.”
