Birch Expands Metro-Fiber Network, Adds Another 130,000 Buildings to Service Footprint

Company Continues to Boost Metro-Fiber Initiative to reach 1,000,000 buildings in 2016

Atlanta, Ga. – April 20, 2016 – Birch Communications, Inc., (“Birch”) a leading provider of communications, network and cloud services to small, mid-sized, enterprise and wholesale businesses across North America, announced today that its latest fiber network footprint expansion in Q1 ’16 has added 130,000 buildings bringing the total to more than 550,000 Metro-Fiber buildings.  These latest additions mark the fifth major Metro-Fiber network expansion in the past 12 months and another large advancement toward the 1,000,000 building goal set for 2016.

Birch’s expanding Metro-Fiber network also drives demand for its comprehensive suite of other value-added products and services.  With this expansion, Birch has increased the availability of its BirchLink Metro-Fiber service to customers seeking to maximize their Internet service options through a full range of reliable and secure connectivity.  Customers can now access a business-class solution offering equal upload and download speeds with an industry-leading SLA guarantee on our BirchLink Metro-Fiber service.  In addition, Birch now controls an IP-Network, which spans 65 major markets across North America and comprised of 32,000 route-miles (51,500 km) of fiber and 715 points of presence (POPs).

Deploying additional Metro-Fiber assets continue to be a major part of Birch’s overall growth strategy for 2016.  The company plans to expand bandwidth-rich services to another 600 central offices throughout the U.S. in the coming months, as well as build more network interconnection agreements with additional carriers to meet rising demand.

“Our ability to reach an additional 130,000 buildings via Metro-Fiber is a huge milestone for Birch,” said Tom Stachowiak, Chief Technology Officer at Birch.  “Delivering high-performance fiber and network services to our customers that ultimately make it easier for them to work in the cloud, upload and download large multimedia files and stream video content is essential, and we will continue to invest in expanding our network reach so that customers can activate our dedicated, high-speed Internet services.
