Open, Converged Packet-Optical Systems Enable Epsilon to Deliver Private Virtual Connections to the Cloud for Data Center Operators and Service Providers
SDN-Architected Control Enables Dynamic Self-Service Provisioning Portal
OTTAWA and BOSTON, February 3, 2016
BTI Systems, a market-leading provider of cloud and metro networking software and systems to colocation, content and service providers around the world, today announced that Epsilon Telecommunications has launched its new Cloud Link eXchange (CloudLX) service, by deploying the BTI Cloud Exchange solution. Capitalizing on Epsilon’s global MPLS backbone network, CloudLX offers data center operators and service providers a suite of service enablement tools along with direct network connectivity to the world’s largest cloud ecosystem, including leading cloud and application providers. Already fully operating in the metro locations of London, Singapore, New York and Frankfurt, extensive global rollout will be completed by Q2 of 2016.
“CloudLX leverages our global network footprint to enable customers to gain direct connectivity to the leading cloud providers, and a dedicated online portal to seamlessly provision private virtualized connections,” said Epsilon Telecommunications CEO Jerzy (George) Szlosarek. “With the BTI Cloud Exchange solution powering our service offering, we provide our customers cloud diversity, managed end-to-end connectivity and efficient operations.”
Epsilon provides connectivity and infrastructure outsourcing solutions to Communications, Applications, Content and Cloud service providers, utilizing its underlying network infrastructure, intelligent application layers and global industry expertise. Epsilon enables customers to seamlessly deliver mission-critical, high-performance applications and communications services globally, leveraging Epsilon’s 500+ carrier relationships with coverage in 170 countries and over 60 Points-of-Presence.
Global cloud traffic is expected to represent 83 percent of total data center traffic by 2019, growing at a CAGR of 33 percent. As a result, data center operators and service providers are looking to extend the reach of their offerings to leading cloud and application providers, to enable direct cloud connectivity for business customers globally. Network providers – including Epsilon – drive this transition by facilitating more efficient, on-demand and high-performance access to information and services through SDN-enabled, packet-optical infrastructure solutions, such as the BTI Cloud Exchange.
“Epsilon understands the disruptive benefit of deploying open and converged networking solutions that deliver bandwidth, connectivity and virtualized services,” said BTI Systems Senior Vice President of Global Marketing Sally Bament. “Our companies have long shared a common vision and strong partnership, and we’re excited to expand on that so Epsilon’s customers continue to reap the rewards of market-best performance, scale and agile network connectivity.”
As part of the BTI Cloud Exchange solution, Epsilon deployed the SDN-architected BTI proNX Control software with open RESTful APIs to enable the easy and rapid creation of the CloudLX customer self-service portal, which allows customers to dynamically set up connections and provision services. Additionally, Epsilon is leveraging the BTI 7800 Series Intelligent Cloud Connectsystems for 100G network performance, and the BTI 7000 Series converged packet-optical transport systems with integrated BTI packetVX (PVX) modules for efficient Ethernet-based services.
“Innovative network providers are deploying value-added, packet-optical infrastructure solutions purpose-built for the cloud, to expand reach and performance, contain costs and accelerate the pace of innovation,” continued Bament. “Point-to-point transport solutions offer simple, high-capacity connectivity between two points, but without the flexibility and intelligence to offer virtualized, on-demand access services to a variety of distributed cloud-based resources.”
The cornerstone of the Epsilon deployment is the SDN-architected BTI proNX Control software and its associated applications, which control and manage the BTI 7800 Series and the BTI 7000 Series network infrastructure. BTI proNX is a highly scalable, centralized software platform providing end-to-end service management, comprehensive SLA assurance and open interfaces for applications integration. Importantly, BTI proNX open RESTful northbound APIs deliver out-of-the-box, end-to-end service activation and monitoring, in addition to a full range of operational functions. The use of this SDN-enabled domain control layer significantly reduced the effort required by Epsilon to develop the CloudLX customer self-service portal, enabling them to focus their efforts on optimizing the end-user experience.
The BTI 7000 Series packet-optical transport systems offer Epsilon dynamic scaling with the flexibility to easily mix modules to capitalize on new service opportunities with a true pay-as-you-grow approach. Specifically, the BTI 7000 Series PVX service modules deliver scalable Carrier Ethernet-based services. Providing leading densities in a compact, carrier-grade platform, the BTI 7000 Series represents a versatile, easily managed foundation for metro packet-optical deployments.
To scale capacity and increase bandwidth, Epsilon also deploys the BTI 7800 Series Intelligent Cloud Connect systems in the core of its metro networks. Combining a rich set of optical capabilities, including 100G Coherent modules, with integrated ROADMs and MPLS switching, the BTI 7800 Series enables network providers to increase capacity; reduce space, power and cooling requirements; and significantly improve network utilization and efficiencies.
