Mumbai (BSE)
– December 1, 2015
Tata Communications, a leading provider of A New World of Communications™ today announces that its data centre in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai, has been recognised with the Certified Energy Efficient Datacenter Award (CEEDA) Gold Level Certification that honours energy efficient data centres globally. The BKC data centre is the first colocation facility in Asia to earn the CEEDA Colo Gold Level Certification. It is a fully secure facility offering domestic and international colocation and data centre value added services over a gross built up area of 160,000 sq. ft. The BKC data centre addresses four environmental aspects – CRAC/HVAC, humidity, temperature and fire suppression and implements each to ensure optimum efficiency and a lower cost of ownership. “We are extremely honoured and proud to be the first colocation data centre in Asia to receive the CEEDA Colo Gold level certification. Tata Communications’ business strategy has the customers’ requirements, trends and movements at the heart of everything it does. Our BKC data centre in Mumbai is a fully secure facility offering domestic and international colocation and data centre value-added services, with energy efficient and resilient infrastructure”, says Rangu Salgame, Chief Executive Officer, Growth Ventures and Service Provider Group, Tata Communications. “Our data centre portfolio is underpinned with our unmatched Tier 1 global network – the largest in the world. Our network reach provides the infrastructure backbone that our customers can leverage to their advantage. This certification is a testament to our commitment to lead and achieve energy efficiency in our data centres and in our business.” CEEDA is an international certification, focusing on ongoing energy efficiency best practices and comprehensive data centre management of facilities and IT services. Its framework includes specifications drawn from ASHRAE, Energy Star, ETSI, EUCoC (the EU code of conduct) and The Green Grid. The Gold Certificate criteria looks at aspects such as external control of equipment energy use, IT equipment inlet environmental conditions and automated energy and environmental metering. CEEDA Colo Gold Level Certification assesses the implementation of energy efficiency best practice in the parts of the facility directly under the data centre’s control, leveraging the findings of the assessment process to improve their operations. The CEEDA program is run by DatacenterDynamics and ratified by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT. Nick Morris, Head of Strategy & Product, Performance Division, DatacenterDynamics says, “We are constantly looking for best-in-class energy efficient facilities around the world. Tata Communications’ BKC facility matched perfectly with our global energy efficiency criteria. With over 24% of the world’s internet running over its network, and as a growing colocation-sector player, Tata Communications recognises the importance of delivering its network, telephony and data centre services with high energy efficiency performance. The attainment of Gold level certification for one of its key facilities is a demonstration of this recognition in practice and, as CEEDA also provides on-going recommendations for helping maintain performance, it also demonstrates Tata Communications’ commitment to future performance.” Tata Communications’ data centre services feature over one million sq. ft. of colocation space in 44 locations around the globe. These data centres meet international standards for redundancy, and are integrated directly with the company’s global IP network to offer high-traffic capacity for faster, better global reach. The suite of colocation services include shared rack, dedicated rack, caged space, remote hands service, customer workspace, and reporting service. The data centres are centrally managed, providing customers with optimal performance, reduced total cost of ownership, security and effective use of resources.
