COSENTRY BUILDS NEBRASKA MEDICINE DATA CENTER AT 50% COST SAVINGS

Mission-Critical Facility Also Uses Innovative Close-Coupled Cooling For 30% Energy Savings

Omaha, NE, — December  8, 2015 — Cosentry, the leading provider of IT solutions in the Midwest, today announced that Omaha-based Nebraska Medicine has selected the company to design, construct, and manage a high-density, high-efficiency data center suite in their Omaha data center. The new private suite saved Nebraska Medicine over 50% versus building their own data center facility, and is architected with an innovative in-row cooling solution that will draw 30% less power than a comparable environment designed in a more traditional way.

Nebraska Medicine is the clinical integration of The Nebraska Medical Center, Bellevue Medical Center and UNMC Physicians. The new healthcare entity serves more than 1,000 physicians and 678 licensed hospital beds, as well as approximately 40 specialty and primary care clinics. The organization budgeted for a $13M data center, but found Cosentry could design a more efficient facility for less than half the cost.

Using existing space that was already under lease, Cosentry proposed a private suite solution consisting of 140 high-density cabinets along with high-efficiency UPS equipment. The true innovation resides within the close-coupled cooling architecture, not typically utilized in colocation or large data center applications. Close-coupled cooling features include:

  • Cooling units placed in rows with server cabinets, reducing energy needed for air circulation.
  • Cooling temperatures of 72 degrees as opposed to typical cooling temperatures of 55 degrees needed.
  • No humidity needs to be injected into the air stream to avoid electro-static discharge.

Additional cost savings are realized from Nebraska Medicine utilizing Cosentry’s network management and security services. The added services allow the medical provider to stay focused on delivering healthcare services in lieu of worrying about hardware and software maintenance contracts, compliance adherence, and relentless hacking attacks.

“This is a perfect example of how Cosentry brings a unique level of flexibility and adaptability to traditional data center designs,” said Brad Hokamp, CEO, Cosentry. “With our data center custom services, Nebraska Medicine receives the benefit of a dedicated, enterprise-class facility with highly-trained management and security personnelfor less than half of a newly constructed, stand-alone data center or retail colocation solution.”
