By all accounts it was an amazing experience watching our hometown Kansas City Royals fight it out in the post-season to win the World Series. We were proud to play our part withaward-winning data network performance at Kauffman Stadium, as awarded by RootMetrics®.
Following last year’s season, and in anticipation of another exceptional run, Sprint made an investment in a new wireless system at Kauffman Stadium that went on-air just in time for Opening Day on April 6.
With a seating capacity of 37,903, Sprint – a longtime sponsor of the hometown Royals – is the only wireless carrier serving The K with a Distributed Antenna System (DAS). Sprint’s extensive system provides voice and data service throughout the entire stadium utilizing all three of Sprint’s spectrum bands (1.9GHz, 2.5GHz and 800MHz).
Network Hits a Homerun
This year’s Royals fans took full advantage of our improved coverage and capacity at Kauffman Stadium. Consider these post-season usage numbers from Kauffman:
- Total tonnage for the 2015 eight game post-season was 2.6 terabytes
- Average tonnage per post-season game increased 4,000% in 2015 compared to 2014
- Sprint fans talked on their phones a total of 178,954 minutes in the post-season
- LTE connection rates for the 2015 post-season improved by approximately 40% compared to 2014
We’re extremely proud of our Kansas City Royals. And it was an honor to play our part in helping customers capture and share this year’s biggest moments in baseball.
