Local Minnetonka Company, North Star Fiber, Brings Gigabit Fiber Internet to Metro, St Cloud and Rochester Apartments and Condos

(Twin Cities Metro, St. Cloud and Rochester, Sept 1, 2015) – On July 8th, Arvig Enterprises (dba Arvig), announced that it has acquired Minnetonka Based North Star Fiber.   The local residential Fiber-Optic Internet Company is in full swing to install over 5000 Apartment and Condo units (MDUs) with gigabit internet by early next year throughout the Twin Cities and its metro suburbs, as well as St Cloud, and Rochester.

A building’s ability to gain access to the Fiber-Optic Network is largely based on its proximity to an existing fiber backbone.   Arvig has more than 2,600 miles of fiber in place in more than half of the counties throughout Minnesota, allowing North Star Fiber to be able to reach hundreds of buildings throughout the state.  Having access to that infrastructure allows North Star Fiber to control 100% of the service quality from the customer’s apartment wall, all the way to the actual internet.

“There are two types of Apartments and Condos:  Buildings that have the infrastructure to support the high speeds fiber-optic can deliver, and those that do not have that infrastructure,” said Dustin Evenson, North Star Fiber Co-Founder.  “Not only do we work with the new buildings, but we also invest a large amount of capital in aging buildings that require installing the new infrastructure.  This allows residents of those buildings to take advantage of the speeds and services only fiber optic can provide.”

There is no cost to the building owners or management for the free infrastructure upgrade and it includes free internet services for their onsite office.  There are also investment opportunities for property owners if they wanted to help finance their property’s project and share a significant portion of the revenues.  Bringing a fiber-optic capable infrastructure and its services into an aging apartment or condo building allows it to compete with new construction and offer the exact same high speed internet options required by today’s high bandwidth demanding residents.  North Star is currently offering Gigabit (1000mbps) internet services to each unit, with services starting at just $40 per month.

“Today’s Internet users are different.  They are more knowledgeable and technologically advanced. With Smart TV’s more like computers and becoming their main source of video media, they want not only high speeds at an affordable price, but they don’t want to be forced to bundle services or be slowed down when streaming high-definition video,” said Chase Rydberg, North Star Fiber Co-Founder.  “North Star Fiber strictly follows Net Neutrality and supports all Over the Top Services (OTT) such as Netflix and other streaming media, with no throttling or bandwidth caps.”

Arvig, founded in Perham, Minnesota in 1950, is also an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) with 37% of the company owned by its employees.  “We are a proud Minnesota Company, and intend to keep everything locally here in Minnesota,” “said David Arvig, Vice President/Chief Operating Officer of Arvig.  “Owners and management are both directly involved in all projects. All of our employees are local residents, including those at our call center currently located in White Bear Lake”.
